MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired catcher Diego Cartaya from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Jose Vasquez.
Diego Cartaya:
- Age: 23
- 2024 Season: Split between Triple-A Oklahoma City and Double-A Tulsa, hitting .221 (76-for-344) with 16 doubles, 11 home runs, 52 RBI, 47 walks, 51 runs scored, a .323 on-base percentage, and a .686 OPS in 95 games.
- Career: Signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent in July 2018, Cartaya has spent five seasons in their minor league system. Over 363 games, he has a batting average of .236 (321-for-1,359) with 66 doubles, three triples, 66 home runs, 234 RBI, 181 walks, 243 runs scored, a .340 on-base percentage, and a .775 OPS.
- Rankings and Honors: Ranked as the Dodgers’ 16th-best prospect by MLB.com in 2024 and the number one prospect in both 2022 and 2023. He won the Branch Rickey Minor League Player of the Year Award in 2022, was selected to play in the 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, and was named a Dodgers MiLB.com organizational All-Star after that season.
Jose Vasquez:

- Minor League Career: Has played two seasons for the Dominican Summer League Twins, recording a 5-2 record with an 8.05 ERA (57.0 IP, 51 ER), 47 walks, and 71 strikeouts in 22 games (9 starts).
The Twins now have 40 players on their 40-man roster, consisting of 22 pitchers, four catchers, five infielders, five outfielders, and four utility players.
