WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Athletics have agreed to terms with infielder Gio Urshela on a one-year contract for the 2025 season, the club announced today.

Urshela began the 2024 season with Detroit, hitting .243 with five home runs and 37 RBIs in 92 games before being released in mid-August. He then signed with Atlanta, where he batted .265 with four home runs and 15 RBIs in 36 games. The 33-year-old right-handed hitter finished the season with a .250 batting average across 128 games, making 102 starts at third base and 15 at first base. Urshela also went 0-for-6 in two postseason games for Atlanta, marking his fifth season with postseason experience.

Urshela boasts a career .273 batting average with 73 home runs, 332 RBIs, and a .729 OPS in 792 games over nine MLB seasons with Cleveland (2015, 2017), Toronto (2018), New York-AL (2019-21), Minnesota (2022), Los Angeles-AL (2023), Detroit (2024), and Atlanta (2024). He batted .299 in 62 games with the Angels in 2023 before a fractured pelvis ended his season in mid-June. The native of Colombia had his best season with the Yankees in 2019, hitting .314 with 21 home runs and 74 RBIs in 132 games. Urshela led Major League third basemen with a .992 fielding percentage in 2020 and has made 614 of his 700 career starts at third base.
