The Tampa Bay Rays have announced the signing of catcher Danny Jansen for the 2025 season, with a mutual option for the 2026 season.
Jansen, 29, split the 2024 season between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox, posting a .205/.309/.349 batting line (57-for-278) with 13 doubles, nine home runs, and 24 RBI over 92 games. He appeared in 62 games for Toronto and 30 games for Boston.
Debuting with Toronto in 2018, Jansen spent parts of his first seven major league seasons with the Blue Jays. Over that period, he batted .222 (314-for-1413) with 72 doubles, one triple, 71 home runs, and 214 RBI. On July 27, 2024, he was traded to the Red Sox in exchange for RHP Gilberto Batista, INF Cutter Coffey, and INF Eddinson Paulino.
With the addition of Jansen, the Tampa Bay Rays now have 40 players on their 40-man roster.
