DALLAS – The Chicago White Sox have selected right-handed pitcher Shane Smith from the Milwaukee Brewers organization during the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

Smith, 24, had an impressive 2024 season with a 6-3 record, a 3.05 ERA (32 ER/94.1 IP), and 113 strikeouts (10.8 per 9.0 IP) over 32 appearances (16 starts) between Class AA Biloxi and Class AAA Nashville. As a starter, he posted a 2-3 record with a 2.96 ERA (22 ER/67.0 IP), a .190 opponents’ average (45-237), and 74 strikeouts.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, Smith has an overall Minor League record of 13-7 with a 2.69 ERA (47 ER/157.0 IP), a .200 opponents’ average (112-560), and 203 strikeouts (11.6 per 9.0 IP) in 73 appearances (19 starts) across three seasons. Smith was originally signed by Milwaukee as a non-drafted free agent on July 27, 2021, from Wake Forest University.
