Oregon State By The Numbers

21 – Conversions on 37 fourth-down attempts this season. The 21 successful attempts rank third nationally.

45.6 – Percent success rate on third down- 73-for-160 – ranking 23rd nationally.

Against Boise State

• The teams are meeting for the 11th time, with Oregon State holding a 6-4 advantage. It’s just the fourth game in Boise between future conference opponents, with the Broncos leading there, 3-1. \ Just one point separates the teams, with OSU totaling 295 to Boise State’s 294. • The Beavers are 3-0 in games decided by seven points or less. • Oregon State head coach Trent Bray is 3-1 as a member of the Beavers versus Boise State. He was 2-1 as a linebacker, winning games in Corvallis in 2003 and 2005. He was also Oregon State’s defensive coordinator in the Beavers’ 34-17 win in 2022, also in Corvallis. \ Bray’s 19 tackles in the 2004 game are the most by a Beaver against the Broncos. That tally also marks the seventh-most in a game at Oregon State. • Skyler Thomas is the lone current Beaver on defense who made a tackle in the 2022 matchup, totaling two solo. No current players on the offensive side of the ball made a catch, a rush or a pass in the 2022 game. • Mike Hass’ 293 yards at Boise State in 293 is the most in a single-game ever by a Beaver. He also had 12 catches in that game, which is tied for eighth. \ A look at top individual performances by Oregon State players against Boise State heading into the game:

To Bowl

• Getting to 6-6 would make the Beavers bowl eligible for the fourth consecutive season. Oregon State has made four consecutive bowl games once previously, from 2006 to 2009 when it went to the Sun Bowl, Emerald Bowl, Sun Bowl and Las Vegas Bowl, in that order. • The Beavers went to the Los Angeles Bowl in 2021, the Las Vegas Bowl in 2022 and the Sun Bowl in 2023.

Boise State Broncos Notes

A WIN WOULD…

• Be Boise State’s 11th overall win of the season, which is its most since 2019 (12-2). • Extend the Broncos’ winning streak to 10 games, which would be their longest in a single-season since 2010 (10-game winning streak to start the season). • Be Boise State’s 11th straight win at home. • Complete Boise State’s first perfect home record during the regular season since 2019 (6-0; 7-0 including the MW Championship). • Register Boise State’s 122nd win while playing as a ranked team in the AP Top 25 poll.

WHAT’S THE RUSH?

Boise State, which owns the fifth-best rushing offense in the country (252.0 ypg), has run for 200+ yards in eight games this season. It marks the third straight season in which the Broncos have at least seven 200-yard rushing games in a single season. The last time Boise State had more than eight 200-yard rushing games in a season was 2014, when it had nine. New Mexico (7) is the only other Mountain West team this season with five or more games of 200 rushing yards.

ESTABLISHING THE RUN GAME

The current average of 252.0 rushing yards per game is the highest average in the program’s FBS era (since 1996), with the next-closest being 229.8 yards per game, achieved in 2004. The Broncos rank second in the FBS in yards per carry, averaging 6.45. This year, the Broncos have 12 individual 100-yard rushing performances, a single-season program record. The previous record of 11 was set in 2014. Per Stats Perform, Boise State has outrushed its opponent in 10 games, with Tennessee (11) being the only FBS team to do so more.

GROUND GAME

Boise State’s total of 2,772 rushing yards is already the highest regular season number of the program’s FBS era (since 1996). Only three Bronco FBS teams have finished the season with more rushing yards. The 2006 team ran for 2,784, the 2014 squad had 2,994 and the 2023 group rushed for 3,008. The Blue and Orange have 38 rushing touchdowns this season, the team’s most in a regular season since the 2006 Broncos had the same number. The 2004 team finished with 46 regular season rushing touchdowns.

IN TOTALITY

While the Boise State offense has been churning in the run game, it also ranks among the best in total offense as the Broncos are fifth in the nation with 479.5 yards per game. Boise State has four games of 500+ total yards this season, which already equals its total from the last two seasons combined and are its most in a season since 2013 (4). The program’s FBS record for most 500-yard games of total offense during a season is six set in 1996.

OFFENSIVE ONSLAUGHT

Boise State ranks third nationally with 41.2 points per game, the most since 2011, when the Broncos averaged 44.2. At the current rate, Boise State will finish the regular season with 494 points, the team’s highest regular season total since 2011, when the Broncos finished with 519 points. The current total of 453 points surpasses the season total from the last four seasons. In addition to being fifth in the country in total offense, Boise State is third in the country in yards per play (7.03) and fifth in total yards (5,274). The Broncos are one of only 12 FBS teams with 5,000 or more total yards entering Week 14.

UNDER PRESSURE

Boise State’s pass rushers have been incredibly effective in reaching the quarterback this season. According to Pro Football Focus Ultimate, the Broncos have 189 total pressures, which combines sacks, hits and hurries. This is tied for 14th in the FBS. There are 14 Broncos with multiple pressures and 23 Broncos with at least one. Ahmed Hassanein has a team-high 48, ranking sixth in the country. He also has 13 quarterback hits, ranking second in the country.

BRONCOS IN THE BACKFIELD

Boise State continues to wreak havoc in opponents’ backfields, ranking second in the nation with 43 sacks. The 43 total sacks are the most since 2014, when the Broncos had 47 sacks. The 1996 and 2010 squads each had 49 sacks, the program record for the FBS era, which began in 1996. Leading the attack for the Broncos are Jayden Virgin-Morgan (9.0) and Ahmed Hassanein (8.5). They are one of one duos in the FBS with at least 8.5 sacks each, joined by Suntarine Per and Princely Umanmielen (10.5 each) from Ole Miss. The Broncos also have 87 tackles for loss, tied for eighth in the country.

DOWN, NOT OUT

Boise State has not trailed much this season, but it faced a 14-0 deficit after the first 24+ minutes of the game at San Jose State. The Broncos came back, however, and secured their largest deficit overcome since Oct. 7, 2023 vs. San Jose State (trailed 27-7, won 35-27). Last week, Boise State trailed for over 21 minutes against Wyoming, but rallied from a 13-10 deficit in the fourth quarter to win, 17-13. Norvell led his former program, Nevada, onto Sonny Lubick Field in the 2021 finale on Nov. 27 and returned to Fort Collins nine days later as the Rams’ new head coach. • Colorado State is a winning football program! With a 21-13 victory at Air Force on Oct. 19, the Rams went above .500 for the first time under head coach Jay Norvell and the first time since 2017. When the Rams marched into Reno on Nov. 2, they took home a 38-21 victory to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2017. • CSU’s offensive line has been one of the best in the nation, and the numbers back it up. In addition to paving the way for 180.2 rushing yards per game (43rd nationally), the Rams front unit has surrendered just nine sacks across the entire season, tied for the fourth-best mark in the nation. Behind the Mountain West’s most seasoned player Jacob Gardner (56 starts in 56 career games) and Drew Moss (45 career starts), The Mob is creating nightmares for opposing defenses. • Colorado State’s defense has been locking up the Mountain West. The Rams have held MW opponents to just 17.0 points per game through six games, the top mark in the league and the only mark below 20.0. • The turnaround of the CSU run game in 2024 cannot be understated. In 2023, the Rams mustered just 92.2 yards on the ground per game, which was the ninth worst mark nationally. In total, Colorado State has sold out four of its first six home games of the season.

• The Rams and Aggies are set to play for the 80th time in history on Friday. That is the fifth-longest streak of games played by players at one school in the FBS. For Dalena, that is every game of his collegiate career. • Every position group outside of linebacker and quarterback have had at least one game with a starter out with injury this season. At the linebacker spot, Malachi Langley and Tuasivi Nomura have started each game. Mikey Keene has started every game at QB this season. He surpassed Derek Carr’s 87.5 (28-of-32) mark against Air Force in 2012. • WR Mac Dalena caught his eighth touchdown of the season against Colorado State. With one more, he will break into the program’s top 15 for single season touchdown receptions. • Dalena is also exactly 100 yards away from a 1,000 yard receiving season. If he hits the 1,000 yard mark, he would become the 13th Bulldog in program history to have 1,000 yards receiving in a single season. Dalena would be the first since Jalen Cropper in 2021 to be added to the list of Bulldogs with the accomplishment. • Senior linebacker Malachi Langley is the most experienced player on the Bulldogs’ roster, playing in 61 career games. • Langley is currently sixth all-time with 314 career tackles. • Langley’s 314 career tackles are the 15th most among all active FBS players. • Fresno State ranks 25th in the FBS and third in the Mountain West in turnovers gained, totaling 19 on the year (14 interceptions, five fumbles).

TEAM NOTES

Fresno State vs. Big Ten

It hasn’t been long since Fresno State last faced a Big Ten opponent. The Bulldogs have Big Ten opponents as bookends for the 2024 season as they opened the year at then-No. 9 Michigan on Aug. 31 and close the regular season at UCLA this weekend. Prior to this season, the Bulldogs opened the 2023 season at Purdue and left back to Fresno with a 39-35 win. Prior to the that win, Fresno State’s last win over a current Big Ten team was Fresno State’s 2021 victory over UCLA (UCLA was a member of the Pac-12 this season). Its previous win over an active Big Ten team was a 52-51 overtime victory over Rutgers on August 29, 2013 in Fresno with Derek Carr and Davante Adams leading the way. • Fresno State is 14-34 all-time against current members of the Big Ten.

Anybody. Anytime. Anywhere.

Legendary Fresno State head coach Pat Hill coined the term “Anybody. Anytime. Anywhere.” during his tenure as head coach. Hill instilled that mentality into the program, that the ‘Dogs would face anybody, anytime and anywhere. Since then, they have. In recent history (since 2017), the Bulldogs have faced 17 current Autonomous 4 opponents. The ‘Dogs are 8-9 in those meetings and have won three of the last four, falling only to then-No. 9 Michigan in the 2024 opener. • All-time, Fresno State has 42 wins over current Autonomous 4 opponents.

Bowling secured

With a win last Saturday, Fresno State became bowl eligible for its fourth consecutive season. It is the first time since the 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons that Fresno State appeared in a bowl game in four-straight seasons. Last year, the Bulldogs defeated New Mexico State 37-10 in the Isleta New Mexico Bowl. Fresno State has a 17-15 all-time bowl game record. The Bulldogs have won their last five bowl games, an active streak that is third in the nation behind Georgia and Minnesota with seven each. Tim Skipper would be the fourth first-year head coach to lead the Bulldogs to a bowl game, joining Alvin Pierson (1945), Tim DeRuyter (2012) and Jeff Tedford (2017). Tedford is the only one to have led the team to a victory, defeating Houston in the Hawaii Bowl that season. That win by Tedford and Co. sparked the Bulldogs’ current bowl game winning streak.

UCLA Bruins Notes

THE MATCHUP

The UCLA football team (4-7, 3-6 Big Ten Conference) closes the 2024 regular season with an intrastate contest against Fresno State (6-5, 4-3 Mountain West) at Rose Bowl Stadium, starting this Saturday, Nov. 30 at 12:30 p.m. PT. The 11th meeting between the Bruins and Bulldogs will be televised on Big Ten Network. The UCLA Sports Network will broadcast the contest, which will also be aired over SiriusXM. UCLA is coming off a 19-13 loss to crosstown rival USC in Pasadena, Calif. last Saturday. Quarterback Ethan Garbers threw for 265 yards on 20-of-29 passing and recorded a passing touchdown for a sixth straight game. Moliki Matavao was on the receiving end of Garbers’ touchdown pass, giving the tight end back-to-back weeks with a score. Linebacker Carson Schwesinger led UCLA in tackles for the ninth time this season with 12. It is a year of change for UCLA football, as head coach DeShaun Foster took the reins at his alma mater Feb. 12, 2024. A member of the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame for his prowess in the Bruin offensive backfield from 1998-2001, Foster spent seven seasons in the National Football League. He piled up more that 4,500 total yards and 16 touchdowns, including a 33-yard scoring dash in Super Bowl XXXVIII as a member of the Carolina Panthers. Foster spent the previous 11 seasons — including 10 at UCLA — in the collegiate coaching ranks before being promoted from associate head coach and running backs coach.

QUICK HITS

• Redshirt junior LB Carson Schwesinger was named one of five finalists for the Butkus Award on Monday. The winner will be announced in December. Schwesinger is the sixth Butkus Award finalist in UCLA history and first since Eric Kendricks (2014). The former walk-on was also one of 10 semifinalists for the Burlsworth Trophy earlier this season. • Schwesinger leads the Big Ten Conference in total tackles (121), total tackles per game (11.0), solo tackles (79), solo tackles per game (7.2) and double-digit tackle games (eight). • Nationally, Schwesinger ranks first in solo tackles (79) and solo tackles per game (7.2). The next closest solo tackler in the FBS trails Schwesinger by nine (Shaun Dolac, Buffalo, 70). Schwesinger ranks third in the FBS and leads all defenders from “Power 4” conferences in total tackles (121). • Schwesinger led the Bruins with a career-high 17 tackles at Washington (Nov. 15), which were the most by a Bruin since Jayon Brown in 2016 (19 versus Colorado on Nov. 3, 2016). • Schwesinger eclipsed 100 tackles for the season at Washington, becoming the first Bruin to accomplish that feat since S Adarius Pickett in 2018 (123) and first UCLA linebacker since Kenny Young in 2017 (110). Schwesinger saw his streak of six straight double-digit tackle performances come to an end against Iowa (Nov. 8). That streak is good for the longest by a Bruin defender since Eric Kendricks in 2014, who went on to win the Butkus Award that season. Schwesinger has led UCLA in tackles in nine of 11 games in 2024. • Schwesinger was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after notching the first two interceptions of his career in UCLA’s 20-17 win over Iowa. • UCLA’s rushing defense ranks seventh in the nation with 99.3 yards allowed on the ground per game. Last year, the Bruins finished second in the nation in rushing defense, giving up 80.8 rushing yards per game to opponents in 2023. • Redshirt senior QB Ethan Garbers has thrown for a touchdown in six consecutive games, going without an interception in four of those contests. Against USC, he snapped a streak of four straight games with multiple touchdown throws, which was the longest such streak of his career. • WR Kwazi Gilmer was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after having the most impactful game of his freshman campaign thus far at Nebraska (Nov. 2). The Sierra Canyon School product posted a season-high 88 receiving yards while reeling in his first career TD reception on a 48-yard grab. • Garbers was awarded UCLA’s first-ever Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award after leading the Bruins to their first conference win in a 35-32 decision at Rutgers (Oct. 19). Garbers recorded the best statistical game of his career, setting single-game career highs in passing yards (383), passing touchdowns (four) and completion percentage (32-38, 84%). He also completed the longest pass of his career (67 yards) and made the then-longest rush of his career (49 yards), both for touchdowns.

Nevada Wolfpack at No. 24 UNLV Rebels*

CBSSN 5 p.m. PT

BATTLE FOR THE FREMONT CANNON SET FOR SATURDAY

The Battle for the Fremont Cannon and the 50th all-time meeting between Nevada and UNLV takes place Saturday at Allegiant Stadium, with kickoff set for 5 p.m. Saturday’s contest will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network, with John Sadak (play-by-play), Robert Turbin (analyst), and Emily Proud (sideline) on the call. The Wolf Pack Radio Network will call the game on KOZZ 105.7 FM in Northern Nevada, online at www.thevarsitynetwork.com and on the Varsity Network app. John Ramey (play-by-play) and Mike Edwards (analyst) will be in the booth, with the 60-minute pregame show to begin at 4 p.m. PT.

SERIES HISTORY

Saturday’s meeting will be the 50th all-time between Nevada and UNLV, and the 49th Battle For The Fremont Cannon. Nevada leads the all-time series, 28-21, but the Rebels have captured each of the past two meetings. The Wolf Pack has not lost three-straight meetings to the Rebels since a five-game slide from 2000-04, and, in fact, neither team has won three-straight in the series since Nevada’s eight-game run from 2005-12. Nevada has captured seven of the last nine meetings in Las Vegas and is 1-1 against the Rebels at Allegiant Field–the Wolf Pack won the first meeting of the teams at the new stadium, 37-19 in 2020, before dropping a 27-22 decision in 2022.

Nevada Wolfpack Notes

CHOATE UNBEATEN IN RIVALRY GAMES

Despite Saturday being his first Battle For The Fremont Cannon as Nevada’s head coach, rivalry games are nothing new to Jeff Choate, who went 4-0 in the bitter “Brawl of the Wild” series between Montana State and Montana. Similar to his first season (2016) as Montana State’s head coach, this year Choate takes a three-win team into its final game of the season on the road at a rival with a winning record. In that 2016 rivalry game in Missoula, Choate’s Bobcats pulled the upset, 24-17. While winning all four meetings with the Bobcats’ bitter in-state rival, Choate earned the moniker, “The Griz Slayer.”

NEVADA AGAINST RANKED TEAMS

Saturday will mark Nevada’s 39th game against a Top-25 team since the Wolf Pack moved up to the FBS level in 1992. The game against No. 21/21 UNLV will also be the Pack’s second Top-25 game of the season, following Nov. 9’s 28-21 loss at No. 12/14 Boise State. Nevada is 5-33 against Top-25 teams, with its last such win coming on Nov. 9, 2019, a 17-13 victory at No. 24 San Diego State.

ABOUT UNLV

UNLV enters its second-straight week back in the national polls, rising to No. 21 in both the Associated Press and AFCA Coaches Polls Sunday after coming in at No. 23 on Nov. 17. The Rebels are 9-2 overall and 5-1 in Mountain West play and can clinch a spot in the 2024 Mountain West Championship Game with a win Saturday. Quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams has stepped in since September and ably led the Rebels, throwing for 1,567 yards and 15 touchdowns against just four interceptions, with Ricky White III being a top target with 70 catches for 965 yards and 10 touchdowns. On the ground, the Rebels, like the Wolf Pack, feature two backs with over 600 yards, as Williams is second on the team with 664 and eight touchdowns, with Jai’Den Thomas leading UNLV with 697 yards and six scores on the ground.

NO LETUP IN THE SCHEDULE

Nevada’s 2024 schedule has set up as one of the nation’s toughest. Notably, the Wolf Pack has the rare distinction of playing three 2023 FBS conference champions in 2024, with the first two coming back-to-back to start the campaign: Aug. 24 – vs. SMU (2023 American champion) – L, 29-24 Aug. 31 – at Troy (2023 Sun Belt champion) – W, 28-26 Nov. 9 – at Boise State (2023 Mountain West champion) – L, 28-21 Oregon (Michigan, Washington, Boise State) is the only other FBS school to play three 2023 FBS conference champions in 2024. Additionally, Nevada has already played two teams currently (through Nov. 12) ranked in the CFP Top 25 and lost one-possession games to both: 29-24 on Aug. 24 against current-No. 14 SMU; 28-21 on Nov. 9 at current-No. 13 Boise State. Both teams are currently ranked in the Associated Press Poll (Boise State No. 12, SMU No. 13), and a third Nevada opponent, UNLV (Nov. 30) broke back into the poll at No. 23 Monday.

CHANCE TO END THE SEASON ON HIGH NOTES

While the Wolf Pack is out of bowl contention for 2024, it has a chance in this final game to build some momentum going into the offseason. The Rebels took the cannon in 2022, and recapturing the trophy would be a big way for the Wolf Pack to springboard into 2025.

AMONG THE NATION’S BEST IN THE RED ZONE

Nevada’s red-zone performance on offense has been a significant turnaround in 2024. On offense, the Wolf Pack has converted 33 of 36 red-zone trips into points, the 91.7-percent rate ranking 15th in the country and second in the Mountain West. Of Nevada’s 36 trips, 28(!) have resulted in touchdowns, a 77.8-percent rate. That rate has, so far, well out-distanced the Pack’s 2023 rate in which it only scored 16 touchdowns on 35 red-zone trips (45.7 percent).

UNLV Rebels Notes

SATURDAY’S PREVIEW…

No. 21/21 UNLV (9-2/5-1) has the chance to reach double-digit wins for only the third time in program history (1974, 1984) when it hosts UNR (3-9/0-6) in the 50th Battle for the Fremont Cannon Saturday on CBS Sports Network … In addition to the famed cannon trophy, the winner of the game will earn three points in the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union, an all-encompassing competition between the two schools … In addition to moving up two spots to a program-record No. 21 in the AP and Coaches polls on Sunday, the Rebels made their CFP Rankings debut last week at No. 24 and await Tuesday’s new listing … UNLV made its first-ever appearance in the Coaches Poll on Sept. 15 and then joined the AP version for the first time two weeks later before an OT loss to Syracuse knocked them out … The Rebels have started 9-2 overall for the second consecutive season under head coach Barry Odom and have won a school-record eight consecutive road games dating back to last season … At 18-7, Odom is the first UNLV coach to be at least 10 games over .500 at the school since Tony Knap retired with a 47-20-1 mark in 1981 … The 18 wins in 25 games under Odom represent the most victories over any two-season span since the Rebels went a combined 18-6 in 1983-84 … The Rebels are 10-2 in true road games under Odom after only winning eight total road games in the previous six seasons (8-25) … All-American WR Ricky White III leads the nation with his four blocked punts this season, which is more than any other FBS TEAM in 2024 … UNLV is tied for third in the nation in turnover margin at plus-13 as the Rebel D has forced at least one turnover in 23 of 25 games under DC Michael Scherer … The Rebels, who have not committed more than one turnover in any game this fall, have scored an eye-popping 84 total points off TOs while allowing just 21 such points from opponents.

REBELS vs. WOLF PACK NOTES…

UNR still holds a 28-21 lead in the series after UNLV won the last two meetings, including the last one staged in Las Vegas … The 49 meetings, which include 35 straight years in a rivalry that permanently became an annual event in 1989, are by far the most UNLV has had with any opponent … This marks the 14th meeting between the Rebs and Pack to end a regular-season … The Rebels’ most-recent overtime victory came against UNR in Reno in 2019.

MORE REBELATIONS…

A win Saturday would mean the famed Fremont Cannon would be painted Rebel Red for a third straight year. The only other time UNLV had more than two straight wins over its in-state rival was a five-game streak under the late Hall of Fame coach John Robinson from 2000-04 and a four-game streak from 1974-77 … Playing on the road as a ranked team for the first in history, UNLV’s 27-16 win at SJSU Friday capped a regular-season away mark of 6-0 … The only other seasons UNLV went undefeated on the road were its inaugural campaign in 1968 and its NCAA D-II semifinalist season of 1974 when the Rebels played just two away games apiece … The Rebels, who are bowl-eligible in back-to-back seasons for the first time ever, are 17-1 under Barry Odom when leading after the third quarter and 7-0 this fall when scoring first … Even without adding a sack during the win at SJSU, UNLV has already surpassed its QB sacks total from last year (26) with 30 on the season, which ranks third in the MW and is the most for the program since posting the same amount in 2000 … After having just one 100-yard individual rushing game in 2023, the Rebs already boast nine century-mark outings from five different players this fall, including twice having two in the same game (at USU and at Hawai’i) … Three-time 2024 MW Defensive Player of the Week Jackson Woodard is currently ninth in the nation with 15 tackes-for-loss and is third in the MW with 12 passes defended, including posting an eye-popping total of five at USU … UNLV is staging a historic season on the scoreboard as its 38.7 points-per-game average ranks eighth in the nation and is on target to shatter the school record of 34.9 PPG in 1980 … Under the current coaching staff, the Rebels have scored at least 40 points 13 times in 25 games and their three games scoring at least 50 points this season is only matched by the 1974 and 1980 squads … PK Caden Chittenden, who is one off the national lead in field goals, has set the league’s freshman single-season record for both field goals (24) and kicking points scored (118) … The 504 net rushing yards UNLV gained vs. Utah Tech in Game Two are the most of any team in the nation this season by nearly 50 yards … After limiting four of its opponents to less than 70 yards rushing, UNLV sits 14th nationally with 104.2 yards allowed per outing. To put that in perspective, the lowest season total for rush yards allowed since the Rebels moved to Division I in 1978 was 141.2 during the 2000 season that included a Las Vegas Bowl victory … UNLV leads the league in pass efficiency and sits second in pass efficiency defense … Since UNLV’s change at QB, WR Ricky White III has 60 receptions for 803 yards and seven TDs in the last eight games and has gone for at least 100 yards in 10 of his last 16 regular-season games … After bringing in 11 in the last eight games, the Rebs are tied for sixth in the FBS with 16 team interceptions. In fact, since the beginning of 2022, UNLV’s defense has 48 picks, which is the most in the FBS during that span (Oklahoma is second with 46) … With the win at Oregon State, the Rebels earned three victories over “A5” opponents in the same season for the first time … With a win at Houston and a victory at Kansas, UNLV became the first non-conference team ever to have multiple road wins against Big 12 competition in the same season … Not counting blocks, UNLV has not returned a punt for a touchdown in 23 years — the longest drought in the nation. The last Rebel to do it was Troy Mason, who went 52 yards vs. San Diego State on Oct. 13, 2001, at Sam Boyd Stadium … However, when Jai’Den Thomas went 90 yards into the end zone vs. Fresno State, UNLV snapped a 13-year drought by returning a kickoff for a score for the first time since Deante Purvis sprinted 98 yards to the end zone vs. CSU on Oct. 29, 2011 … Marshall Nichols finished with the second-highest season punting average in school history last fall as his 47.1 yards per attempt ranked sixth in the nation and sat only slightly behind 1984 All-American Randall Cunningham’s 47.5 rate. Nichols is averaging a robust 43.9 this season, which would rank 26th in the nation if he had enough attempts to qualify for the NCAA stats … UNLV QB Hajj-Malik Williams, who stands 15th in the country in pass efficiency, needs just 116 net yards after just eight starts to become the Rebels’ single-season record-holder for rush yards by a QB. He has at least one rush and one pass TD in six of his eight starts … Barry Odom has a 7-2 record in non-conference games during the regular season at UNLV after the Rebels only had a combined six such wins from 2018-22 (6-10). Odom is also tied for the second-most wins after his first 25 games at the UNLV helm.

• San Diego State wraps up the 2024 season Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium against Air Force. Kickoff for the Aztecs (3-8, 2-4 MW) and the Falcons (4-7, 2-4 MW) is set for 7:30 p.m. PT on FS1 and San Diego Sports 760. • SDSU is coming off its second consecutive 41-20 loss, this time at Utah State on Saturday night. San Diego State led, 13-0, but the Aggies scored the next 41 points, scoring a touchdown on six of their next seven drives, to take a 41-13 lead. The Aztecs closed the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Javance Tupou’ata-Johnson to Mekhi Shaw with 32 seconds remaining. • SDSU was outgained, 488-412, for the game, including a decisive 322-188 advantage on the ground. In the second half, San Diego State was outgained, 318-177. • Aztec running back Marquez Cooper ran for 118 yards and a touchdown for his fifth 100-yard game of the season and 22nd of his career. • In the game, Cooper became the 23rd player in NCAA FBS history to record at least 5,000 yards rushing. • On the season, Cooper has rushed for 1,180 yards and 10 touchdowns, the first SDSU player with a 1,000-yard season since Greg Bell in 2021. • Cooper is the first player in NCAA FBS history with 1,000-yard rushing seasons with three different teams, including 1,080 and 1,326 while at Kent State in 2021 and 2022, respectively, 1,043 last year at Ball State and 1,180 so far this year. • Cooper’s four 1,000-yard rushing seasons overall are tied for the most in NCAA FBS history. The other players to accomplish the feat are Tony Dorsett (Pittsburgh, 1973-76), Amos Lawrence (North Carolina, 1977-80), Denvis Manns, New Mexico State (1995- 98), Ron Dayne (Wisconsin, 1996-99); Cedric Benson (Texas, 2002-05), DonTrell Moore (New Mexico, 2002-05), Tyrell Fenroy (Louisiana, 2005-08), Damion Fletcher (Southern Miss., 2006-09), Justin Jackson (Northwestern, 2014-17) and Myles Gaskin (Washington, 2015-18). • Cooper is the active leader in FBS play in rushing yards (5,036) and all-purpose yards (5,746), and is third in rushing yards per game (95.0, min. 25 GP) and rushing touchdowns (43), and tied for fourth in total touchdowns (44). • Saturday’s San Diego State-Air Force game will feature two of the most successful teams in the country the last decade. The Aztecs are 79-46 (.632) since the 2015 season, the 20th-best record over that span (min. 100 games) and the fourth best among non-Power 4 schools. The Falcons, meanwhile, are 75-45 (.625), the 23rd-best record over that span and fifth among non-P4 schools. • Remarkably, this is the first time both teams have been under .500 when playing one another since 2013. From 2014-23, the teams played each other seven times. The combined record heading into those meetings was 73-30 (.709). This year SDSU and AFA enter the game at 7-15 (.318). • This is the 39th meeting between San Diego State and Air Force with the Falcons owning a 21-18 series lead. • The Aztecs won a school-record nine straight games in the series before falling, 13-3, on Senior Night in 2022 and then again last year in Colorado. The nine straight wins at the time were the longest active win streak against the Academy. • SDSU is 10-8 all-time against AFA in San Diego. • This could be the last time the two teams meet in the regular season as San Diego State is joining the Pac-12 Conference in the 2026 season and next year’s schedule – SDSU’s last in the Mountain West – is yet to be set. n It’s a tale of two streaks right now for San Diego State and Air Force. The Aztecs have lost five consecutive games for the first time since 2008 after starting the season with a 3-3 record. The Falcons, meanwhile, have won three straight games following a seven-game losing streak. n AFA has outscored its opponents, 86-47, over its three-game winning streak. • QB Danny O’Neil, the first true freshman to start a season-opener in SDSU’s Division I history (since 1969), has completed 185 of 298 passes (62.1 pct.) for 1,951 yards and 11 touchdowns with six interceptions, while posting a 125.2 pass efficiency rating. • EDGE Trey White ranks second in FBS in total tackles for loss (18.5) and tackles for loss per game (1.68), third in tackles for loss yards (102), fourth in total sacks (12.5) and sacks per game (1.14), and eighth in total sack yards (68). White leads the Mountain West in all of those categories. • White is ranked in a tie for third in SDSU single-season history with 12.5 sacks with Andy Coviello (1991), only trailing Mike Douglass (21.0 in 1976) and Brett Faryniarz (13.0 in 1987). n Last month, White was added to the Bednarik Award Watch List for the most outstanding defensive player and was named to five midseason All-America teams. • The San Diego State special teams has continued to impress as this year’s unit is ranked sixth in the country, according to ESPN’s special teams efficiency rating (68.8). The Aztecs have won five of the nine Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Year awards issued since 2015. Those five include three kick returners (Rashaad Penny from 2015-17), two punters (Matt Araiza in 2021 and Jack Browning in 2022) and one kicker (also Araiza in 2021). • Both of SDSU’s kickers are leading the league in their respective categories. Punter Tyler Pastula leads the Mountain West with a 46.16 punt average, which ranks seventh nationally and ranks third in San Diego State single-season history. Pastula has two of the six longest punts in FBS play this season (79-yarder at Boise State on Nov. 1 and a 75-yarder at Wyoming on Oct. 12). • Placekicker Gabe Plascencia, meanwhile, has made 12 consecutive field goals – tied for the fifth-longest active streak in the country – and is 13-for-14 on the season. His 92.9 field goal percentage leads the MW and would be a school record if the season ended today. For his career, Plascencia is 17-for-18 in field goal attempts and his 94.4 percentage would be a school record if he had enough attempts (25) to qualify. • Prior to the game, SDSU will honor 24 departing seniors, who will most likely be playing in their final collegiate game.

Hawai‘i, which had one bye week in each of the past two seasons, had three bye weeks this season (Weeks 2, 5, 13). 4 UH (4-7, 2-4 MW) last played at Utah State two weeks ago in Logan, Utah falling 55-10. The Warriors threw five interceptions and were sacked seven times in the loss. • UNM (5-6, 4-3) upset No. 18 Washington State two weeks ago in Albuquerque, N.M., 38-35, keeping its bowl chances alive. The last time the Lobos were bowl eligible was 2016. • This season marks the second consecutive year that UH can spoil a team’s chance for bowl eligibility in the final week of the regular season. Last year, Hawai‘i defeated Colorado State, 27-24 in Honolulu on a walk-off field goal. • UH’s Brayden Schager has made 33 consecutive starts, which is a school-record for a quarterback. If he does not start on Saturday, true freshman Micah Alejado will likely get the nod becoming the first freshman to start a game at QB since Schager in 2021 vs. Fresno State.

HAWAI‘I IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST

• Hawai‘i will wrap up its 13th season in the Mountain West. 4 UH is 33-69 (.324) all-time in the MW — 19-33 (.365) at home and 14-36 (.280) on the road. • Hawai‘i has appeared in one Mountain West Championship game during the 2019 season.

TEAM NOTES

• Three of UH’s seven losses this season were decided by three points or less — UCLA (16-13) San Diego State (27-24), and UNLV (29-27). 4 Under head coach Timmy Chang, UH is 0-15 when scoring 17 points or fewer compared to 12-10 when scoring more than 17 points. • UH enjoyed its largest margin of victory in 3+ seasons at Ching Complex and its largest under Timmy Chang with its 29-point win over Northern Iowa, Sept. 21. • The 21-point win over Nevada was the largest at home over a Mountain West opponent since moving into the Ching Complex in 2021. • UH’s 13-point fourth-quarter comeback against Fresno State was its largest since erasing a 14-point deficit against Fresno State at home on Oct. 2, 2021. • UH has won its last 22 games against FCS teams dating back to 2001 including wins over Delaware State and Northern Iowa this season. The average winning margin victory during the streak is 25.8 points per game. • UH had its most penalties and fewest penalties on the road this season, committing a season-high 14 penalties for 122 yards in a loss to Sam Houston (the most by a Hawai‘i team since 2004) and had a season-low four penalties for 30 yards at Washington State.

MOUNTAIN WEST NOTES

• The regular season comes to a close with all 12 Mountain West squads in action in Week 14, with No. 24 UNLV and Colorado State vying for the final spot in the 2024 Old Trapper Mountain West Football Championship. No. 12 Boise State clinched its spot and the right to host in Week 13 and now awaits its opponent. • The Rams and Rebels enter Week 14 with identical 5-1 MW records but did not face each other this season. If both teams win this week and one is ranked higher than the other in the Nov. 26 CFP rankings, the higher-ranked team will be the second participant in the championship game, per the Mountain West tiebreaking procedures. If the teams both lose, the tie will be broken by results-based computer metrics. • Boise State is No. 12 and UNLV is No. 24 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. The Broncos are currently projected as the No. 4 seed and would get a first-round bye. • The Broncos are No. 11 in the Associated Press and US LBM Coaches (AFCA) polls this week, while UNLV is No. 21 in both of those polls. • The Mountain West has the strongest nonconference schedule in the FBS. MW teams have 35 nonconference games scheduled this season against Autonomous 4 opponents, the most of any FBS league (counting Notre Dame, Oregon State and Washington State as A4 teams), with the next-closest totaling 27. • MW teams have played 12 one-possession games against A4 opponents this season, with four of those games settled in overtime or on the final play of regulation. • The MW has eight wins against A4 opponents this season, more than the combined total of its four peer conferences (five). • Since 2018, the MW has the best winning percentage over Autonomous 5 teams (28.68) among its peer conferences. MW teams have collected 37 wins over such teams in that span, also the most among its peer conferences. • It’s a new era for the College Football Playoff in 2024, as the five highest-ranked FBS conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked at-large teams will earn spots in the 12-team postseason playoff. With unprecedented access to the CFP, the Mountain West is well-positioned to earn a shot at competing for a national title.

GOING BOWLING

Five MW teams are bowl eligible in 2024. UNLV is bowling in consecutive seasons for the first time in program history. Boise State is bowl eligible for the 27th consecutive season, the second-longest active streak behind Georgia’s current 28-season run. Colorado State is bowl eligible for the first time since 2017, Fresno State is bowl eligible for the fourth year in a year and San José State is bowl eligible for the third straight season. New Mexico would join the ranks with a win at Hawai‘i on Saturday.

MW OWNS THE RUN GAME

It’s not just Jeanty. The Mountain West on the whole has dominated the run game across the FBS this season. Three MW squads are in the top 10 in the FBS in rushing, led by Boise State at No. 5 with 252.0 yards per game. New Mexico is sixth at 248.9 per contest and UNLV is seventh at 245.3. The MW has had three teams finish in the top 10 in the category twice, in 2012 and 2016. New Mexico quarterback Devon Dampier leads the FBS in yards per carry at 7.72, while the Lobos as a team lead the FBS at 6.73, followed by Boise State at 6.45 at No. 2 nationally. Dampier, who is third in the MW with 1,065 rushing yards this season, is the first Lobo quarterback to ever surpass 1,000 yards rushing in a season. His rushing total is the most by a MW quarterback in a season since Nevada’s Cody Fajardo in 2012 (1,121). Boise State has outrushed its opponent in 10 games this season, with Tennessee (11) the only FBS team to do so more. Colorado State is averaging 181.3 rushing yards per game this season compared to 92.8 per game in 2023, the sixth-largest increase by any FBS team (+88.5) and largest by any MW team. The Rams have also gone from 10 rushing touchdowns last season to 18 in 2024. There have been 22 200-yard individual rushing efforts this season, and seven of them have come from MW players, including four by Jeanty. Only one other league, the ACC, has produced more than two.

HAVE RUN GAME, WILL TRAVEL

Continuing the running theme, San Diego State’s Marquez Cooper is the active career rushing leader in the FBS with 5,036 yards. He is just the 23rd player in FBS history to surpass 5,000 career rushing yards and is the first player in FBS history with 1,000-yard seasons at three different institutions. In addition to his 1,180 this year, he also hit the mark at Kent State in 2021 and 2022 and at Ball State in 2023.
