The Minnesota Timberwolves are eager to end their early-season losing streak.

The Sacramento Kings share that goal, setting the stage for a competitive matchup in Minneapolis on Wednesday night.

The Timberwolves have lost three consecutive games, including a 117-111 overtime defeat to the Houston Rockets at home on Tuesday night. Anthony Edwards had a chance to win the game in regulation, but his shot rimmed out, and the Rockets pulled ahead by outscoring the Timberwolves 15-9 in overtime.

The Kings are also hunting for a win after dropping their last four games, most recently suffering a 130-109 loss at home to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday.

The Timberwolves are searching for ways to rebound from a disappointing start. Despite reaching the Western Conference final last season, they have lost nine of their first 17 games in the 2024-25 season.

The team has also been challenged by a toe injury to veteran point guard Mike Conley.

Rookie Rob Dillingham has stepped up in Conley’s absence, earning praise for his performance on Tuesday night. Dillingham scored 12 points and dished out seven assists off the bench.  For the Kings, DeMar DeRozan remains a key player, scoring a team-high 30 points on 13-of-21 shooting against Oklahoma City. DeRozan is averaging 22.6 points per game this season with a 50.8 percent field goal percentage and 29.4 percent from beyond the arc.

De’Aaron Fox leads Sacramento with an average of 28.1 points per game on 50.4 percent shooting overall. Domantas Sabonis is averaging a double-double with 20 points and 12.9 rebounds per game, while Keegan Murray is contributing 13.2 points per game.

Anthony Edwards has been a standout for the Timberwolves, averaging 28 points through 17 games. He scored 29 points on Tuesday night, shooting 8-of-22 from the field, 3-of-12 from three-point range, and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Wednesday’s game will be the third of four regular-season meetings between Minnesota and Sacramento. The Timberwolves won both previous encounters, 117-115 on October 24 and 130-126 in overtime on November 15, both on the road.
