Bettormetrics, a sports odds intelligence firm, has released a new report comparing suspension times between top operators during week eight of the college football season and week nine NFL games. The analysis revealed that while suspension times during NFL games are relatively short, significant improvements are needed for college football games.
Suspension occurs when a sportsbook temporarily shuts down betting lines to readjust the odds based on in-game activity, while uptime refers to the time they are accepting live wagers. Bettormetrics found that DraftKings and FanDuel had the shortest suspension times during NFL games, with FanDuel leading in college football games.
DraftKings, previously recognized as a leader in NBA and NFL suspension times, experienced the largest drop in performance during college games compared to its NFL suspension times. On average, suspension times were 8.7% worse during college games, with Hard Rock showing the smallest drop in performance.
“The NFL is clearly the American bettor’s favorite competition, so it’s only a matter of time before sportsbooks shift their focus to college football, seeking improvements in suspension, uptime, and overall trading performance,” said Sabin Brooks, Bettormetrics’ Chief Revenue Officer. “Those who master suspension in college games will ultimately come out on top. Doing so is a win-win because bettors will have an improved experience, leading to more handle, better product, customer experience, and profitability for the sportsbook.”
Robert Urwin, Bettormetrics’ co-founder and CEO, acknowledged the challenges in scouting data for college football but emphasized the demand for betting on NCAA football. “Operators need to find solutions to overcome the significant suspension differences between NFL and college football,” he said. “With over $800 million in estimated gross gaming revenue during college football season, operators will miss out on potential revenue unless suspension times are addressed.”
Bettormetrics’ report underscores the need for sportsbooks to improve their suspension strategies for college football to enhance the betting experience and maximize revenue.
