Los Angeles Angels acquire OF/DH Jorge Soler from Atlanta

RHP Griffin Canning traded to Braves

ANAHEIM – The Angels have acquired OF/DH Jorge Soler from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for RHP Griffin Canning. Soler, 32, played in 142 games for San Francisco and Atlanta in 2024, recording 34 doubles, 21 home runs, 84 runs scored, 64 RBIs, and a .780 OPS. Among outfielders, Soler ranked fourth in doubles (34) and 10th in walks (68) in 2024.  

A native of La Habana, Cuba, Soler was signed as an international free agent by the Chicago Cubs on June 30, 2012, and made his Major League debut with them in 2014. He is a two-time World Series Champion (2016 with the Cubs and 2021 with the Braves) and was named World Series MVP in 2021 after batting .300 with three home runs in the Fall Classic. Soler set a Kansas City record and led the American League with 48 home runs in 2019 and was named a National League All-Star with the Marlins in 2023. Over his career, he has compiled 197 doubles, 191 home runs, 516 RBIs, and 500 runs scored across 1,012 games in 11 Major League seasons.  

Canning, 28, spent five seasons with the Angels, finishing with a 25-34 record and a 4.78 ERA (508 IP – 270 ER) with 483 strikeouts in 99 games (94 starts). In 2024, he appeared in 32 games (31 starts), compiling a 6-13 record and a 5.19 ERA (171.2 IP – 99 ER) with 130 strikeouts.
