ACC IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY
• Through Week 8 of the 2024 college football season, the ACC is 42-15 overall in non-conference play. The 42 non-conference wins are tied for the most among all FBS conferences. • Overall, the ACC has eight non-conference wins versus fellow Power 4 conference foes. n The ACC has recorded five non-conference wins over the other Power 4 conferences on the road.
• Week 9 includes just one non-conference game, as former Pac-12 foes California and Oregon State meet at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, California, at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 26, on ESPN2. n Last year in 2023, the ACC went 44-23 in nonconference play after posting a record of 42-22 in nonconference action in 2022. • The ACC has recorded 40 or more non-conference wins as a league eight times since 2013, including 51 nonconference wins in 2016, the most since at least 2000.

AROUND THE ACC
Boston College: The Eagles, which played on Thursday night last week, are back in action on Friday night this week, playing its first home game since defeating Western Kentucky on September 28. The Eagles are 3-0 at home this season and will look to snap a two-game losing streak, with both losses coming on the road in ACC play. Friday’s contest versus Louisville is the first ACC home game of the season for the Eagles, who round out the regular season with four out of five home games over the next five weeks.
California: The Golden Bears have had a rough start to their first season in the ACC. Cal is on a four-game losing streak, with all four games coming in ACC play. The Bears’ four losses have all been within one score and have been by a combined nine points.
Clemson: The Tigers enter their open week at 5-0 in conference play for the eighth time under Dabo Swinney (2011, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022). Clemson joined Army as the only two teams in the country to have earned at least five conference wins this season. With the home win last week, Clemson extended its active home winning streak to eight games, which is the ACC’s longest active streak.
Duke: The Blue Devils made history last week with their first win over Florida State, ending the losing streak at 22 games. This week, Duke will take on its first nationally ranked opponent of the year in No. 22 SMU at home in Wallace Wade Stadium. Duke’s last home loss came to a nationally-ranked Notre Dame team last year. With their 4-0 home start to 2024, the Blue Devils are 12-1 in their last 13 home games dating back to the 2022 season. Duke’s only loss during that stretch was a 21-14 setback to No. 11 Notre Dame on September 30, 2023.
Florida State: Redshirt freshman kick returner Samuel Singleton Jr. returned four kickoffs for 165 yards, including a 95-yard touchdown to open the second half at Duke last week. The 95-yard touchdown is tied for the 19th-longest in FSU history and was the first of Singleton’s career. His 165 kick return yards are seventh in FSU history and tied for the third-most in the country this season. Singleton’s 165 kickoff return yards are the most for a freshman this season and he is the only Power 4 freshman with a kickoff return touchdown this year.
Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets’ wide receiver Malik Rutherford continues to be consistent. With his four catches last week against Notre Dame, the redshirt junior has now caught a pass in 24 consecutive games, which is tied for the second-longest consecutive game streak with a reception in Georgia Tech history. It is Tech’s longest streak since Demaryius Thomas had a reception in 29 straight games from 2008-09.
Louisville: Quarterback Tyler Shough went tit-for-tat with Miami’s quarterback Cam Ward last week in a 52-45 loss to the Hurricanes. Shough threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns. The four touchdown passes matched his career high, while his 342 yards passing were the second-most in his short Louisville career. Shough’s 31 pass completions were the most by a Louisville player since Teddy Bridgewater was 35-of-45 in a 36-9 win versus Miami in the 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl. Shough recorded his third 300-yard passing game at Louisville and his fourth game with at least 300 yards of total offense.
Miami: The Hurricanes’ offense continued their stellar season with 52 points in a road win at Louisville last week, marking the fourth time that Miami has scored 50 points or more this season. In the win last week over the Cardinals, the Canes had two wide receivers with over 100-plus receiving yards for the first time this season – Samuel Brown Jr. and Xavier Restrepo with 125 and 101 receiving yards, respectively.
North Carolina: The Tar Heels’ Omarion Hampton had another 100-yard rushing game last time out versus Georgia Tech (October 12), giving him his sixth 100-yard rushing game of the season. UNC has had a player rush for at least 100 yards in each of the first seven games of the season for the first time since 1983, the only other time that has happened in UNC football history. UNC is one of three teams in the nation to have at least one 100-yard rusher in each of its games this season (Boise State, Liberty)
NC State: True freshman quarterback CJ Bailey has settled in as the NC State signal-caller over the last few weeks, as he has thrown for over 300 yards in each of his last two starts. Over his last two games, Bailey has completed 42-of-60 pass attempts for 635 yards, four touchdowns and just one interception. t Pitt: Pitt junior running back Desmond Reid, who ranks second nationally in all-purpose yards with an average of 182.6 per game, was named to The Sporting News Midseason All-America Team, The Athletic Midseason All-America Team and added to the watch list for the prestigious Maxwell Award. On the season, Reid leads Pitt in all-purpose yards (913), rushing yards (494), total touchdowns (8) and receiving touchdowns (4). He has been a catalyst for a Pitt offense that is averaging 481.3 yards and 40.8 points per game, which both rank in the top 15 nationally in all of FBS.
SMU: The Mustangs’ offense will be without tight end RJ Maryland, who suffered a season-ending injury last week at Stanford. Maryland led SMU with 24 catches for 359 yards and four touchdowns over the first seven games. Quarterback Kevin Jennings, who has emerged over the last few weeks, will look for offensive help from running back Brashard Smith (91 carries, 628 yards, 7 TDs) and a quartet of receivers in Jake Bailey (17 rec., 260 yards, TD), Key’Shawn Smith (16 rec., 242 yards, 3 TDs), Jordan Hudson (13 rec., 146 yards, 3 TDs) and Roderick Daniels Jr. (11 rec., 140 yards).
Stanford: Stanford’s offense has been aggressive this season, as the Cardinal rank second in the country in fourth-down attempts, having gone for it on fourth down 24 times thus far over seven games. Only Air Force has gone for it more frequently. With 12 fourth-down conversions, Stanford is tied for 10th nationally for the most successful fourth-down attempts. However, Stanford’s fourth-down conversion percentage of 50 percent is tied for 75th nationally across all of FBS.
Syracuse: Transfer quarterback Kyle McCord has thrown for 300-plus yards in each of his six games for the Orange this season, a program record, spreading the ball around to whoever has been open. Syracuse enters Week 9 of the season as the only school in the country with three wide receivers averaging 72 or more receiving yards per game. That equates to three of the top 63 players in the country in the statistic all playing at SU.
Virginia: The Cavaliers have scored 30 or more points in four of their seven games this season, winning three of those four contests. Last year, the Virginia offense scored 30 points or more just three times, going 2-1 over those contests. In head coach Tony Elliott’s first year at UVa in 2022, the Cavaliers eclipsed 30 points just once in a 34-17 home win over Richmond. Under Elliott, the Cavaliers are 6-2 when scoring 30 or more points in a game.
Virginia Tech: Bhayshul Tuten ran wild on Thursday night last week in Blacksburg, Virginia, recording a career-high 266 rushing yards, setting the school’s single-game rushing record. The senior recorded three rushing touchdowns and a 20-yard reception for another score, finishing the game with four touchdowns and 286 all-purpose yards. He has now scored a TD in nine straight games dating back to last season. He leads the ACC with 12 rushing touchdowns and 14 total touchdowns this season.
Wake Forest: The Demon Deacons are coming off a 23-20 road win at UConn last week to improve to 2-0 in road games this season. The 2-0 start on the road, marks the sixth time in the Dave Clawson era. Wake Forest’s contest this week is across the country, as the Deacs will travel to Stanford for their first conference matchup against the Cardinal.
