On Friday night, Detroit Pistons coach will attempt to outmaneuver his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, who let go of Bickerstaff after last season despite a first-round playoff victory over Orlando. New Pistons president of basketball operations, Trajan Langdon, picked Bickerstaff to lead the rebuilding team, replacing Monty Williams after just one season.

The Pistons, coming off their worst season in history, fought hard against Indiana but ultimately fell 115-109 in their season opener on Wednesday. They had a double-digit lead early in the second half but were outscored 33-19 in the fourth quarter.

Star player Cade Cunningham led the team with 28 points and eight assists, while backcourt partner Jaden Ivey contributed 17 points. The Pistons also saw strong performances from new veterans Tim Hardaway Jr. and Malik Beasley, who each scored 14 points, and Tobias Harris with 13 points. Overall, the team looked much more competitive after a tough 68-loss season.

The Cavaliers, who have dominated the Pistons in recent seasons with nine straight wins, began their new campaign with a 136-106 victory over Toronto. Evan Mobley led with 25 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks, setting a franchise high for a season opener.
