HOUSTON, TX – Astros infielder/outfielder Mauricio Dubón underwent surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb today, General Manager Dana Brown has announced.

Dubón, who was able to continue to play after sustaining the injury in early September, is expected to be ready to return to action by the start of Spring Training.

Dubón, 30, appeared in a career-high 137 games in 2024, hitting .269 (108×402) with 25 doubles, four home runs and a career-best 47 RBI. He finished the season strong, hitting .338 (22×65) down the stretch in 23 games in September. Dubón also excelled as a pinch-hitter, going 4-for-11 (.364) with a home run and five RBI, the latter ranking tied for fourth in the American League. Other highlights included a 14-game hitting streak, which was the second-longest by an Astros player this season, and his first career four-hit game on May 12 at Detroit. Additionally, his 7.78 plate appearances-per-strikeout rate was tops on the club and ranked sixth in the AL.

Defensively, Dubón, who earned a Gold Glove in 2023, proved to be invaluable once again, becoming the first player in franchise history to start at seven different positions in the same season: LF-44 starts; CF-18 starts; RF-11 starts; 2B-13 starts; 1B-9 starts; 3B-9 starts; SS-3 starts.

Dubón has also been solid in the postseason for the Astros, hitting .333 (10×30) in his 16 career postseason games.
