Week 1 brought lots of exciting matchups, and the week 2 slate looks to play a similar chord as nine teams will compete this weekend. Here’s a glimpse at week two.
Winston-Salem State vs. Ohio Dominican (6:00 PM)
After a 1-0 start, the Rams faced off with North Carolina A&T with an opportunity to start 2-0 but fell to the Aggies in nail-biting fashion, losing at the last second of overtime. They’ll look to get back in the win column this Saturday as they compete in their home opener against Ohio Dominican. This marks the second meeting between the two teams, with the Panthers coming out on top last season, 26-14.
Bluefield State @ Emory and Henry (1:00 PM)
Bluefield State bounced back from a week zero loss with a 22-13 victory over Concord, the first for head coach Davon Morgan since taking over the team. They’ll hit the road for a second consecutive week as they’ll face off with Emory and Henry. Last season, the Wasps took care of business with a 37-14 victory over the Big Blue, but B-State will look to even the series to 1-1.
Bowie State vs. Davenport (12:00 PM)
Bowie State kicked off their season last week on the road against Lenoir-Rhyne, falling to the Bears, 32-19. They’re back in action against Davenport for their home opener, as they search for their first victory of the season. Last season, the Panthers hosted the Bulldogs, winning the first game of the series, 24-19.
Lincoln (PA) @ Johnson C. Smith (1:00 PM)
The lone matchup between two CIAA schools this weekend will see Johnson C. Smith, who is 2-0, compete in their first home game of the season, as they play host to Lincoln (PA), who is 0-1. The Golden Bulls are 4-2 against the Lions dating back to 2012, including a thrilling 27-20 victory over Lincoln (PA) last season. Last week, JCSU defeated Morehouse 37-13, while the Lions fell to Clarion, 20-9.
Elizabeth City State @ Erskine (1:00 PM)
Last week, the Vikings earned their first win of the season over Chowan in gritty fashion, squeezing out a 12-9 victory to improve to 1-1. They’ll go head-to-head with a 1-1 Erskine squad for the first time in program history this weekend. The Flying Fleet are coming off a 31-14 loss to Division I Presbyterian College.
Shaw vs. Catawba (6:00 PM)
Shaw is coming off an exciting last-second victory over Albany State last weekend as they scored a touchdown with just eight seconds left in regulation to clinch the 43-40 victory, improving to 2-0. They’ll welcome Catawba to Durham, N.C. this weekend for the first time in 14 years. The two teams faced off for the first time in 2010, with Catawba commencing the series matchup with a 32-21 victory.
Livingstone vs. Allen (S.C.) (6:00 PM)
After a 37-9 blowout over Virginia-Lynchburg for their first win of the season, Livingstone will host Allen (S.C.) for their third consecutive home game. The Blue Bears enter the week 1-1 and will take on the Yellow Jackets, who are coming off a 26-22 loss to Clark Atlanta. Livingstone and Allen have faced off three times in the past six seasons, with the Blue Bears holding a slight 2-1 advantage.
Fayetteville State @ Valdosta State (7:00 PM)
Last season’s runners-up kicked off the season in the win column last week, gutting out a 35-31 victory over UNC Pembroke. They’ll go to battle against a tough Valdosta State squad who are 2-0 and are coming off a 12-2 season that saw them reach the NCAA quarterfinals last season. This matchup marks the first between these two programs.
