WHAT TO WATCH FOR

OUR PLACE

Three Sun Belt teams—Texas State, Old Dominion and Georgia State—will welcome autonomy five programs to their respective stadiums this weekend. The Bobcats—fresh off their first-ever win in the I-35 Showdown against UTSA—will host Arizona State at UFCU Stadium at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, on ESPN. The Monarchs will welcome in-state foe Virginia Tech to S.B. Ballard Stadium at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, on ESPN+. The Panthers will play host to Vanderbilt at Center Parc Stadium at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, on ESPN+. Texas State defeated in-state rival Baylor, 42-31, as 1-of-4 Sun Belt victories over autonomy five opponents in 2023, while Old Dominion bested Virginia Tech, 20-17, in its last trip to Norfolk as 1-of-4 Sun Belt victories over autonomy five foes in 2022. Georgia State’s last victory over an autonomy five opponent was a 38-30 win over Tennessee in 2019.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Bobcats redshirt senior quarterback Jordan McCloud accounted for four touchdowns, as Texas State secured its first-ever victory over in-state rival UTSA in the I-35 Showdown, 49-10, in front of a sellout crowd of 28,000 fans at UFCU Stadium. The Tampa, Fla., native completed 18-of-27 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns. McCloud also ran for 30 yards and two scores in the ground game.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Monarchs junior defensive back Jahron Manning led a defensive unit that set the program single-game record with four interceptions in a 20-14 loss to East Carolina. The New Orleans, La., product hauled in his first two career interceptions and added a career-high 10 tackles and a tackle for loss. Manning returned his first interception 45 yards to set up an Old Dominion touchdown and halted an East Carolina drive with his second pick in the end zone.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Red Wolves redshirt senior wide receiver and return specialist Courtney Jackson helped spark an Arkansas State second-half comeback with a 77-yard punt return touchdown. The return helped the Red Wolves erase 17-7 halftime deficit in an eventual 28-24 win over Tulsa. The Monroeville, Pa., native also caught three passes for 20 yards on offense. Jackson’s punt return touchdown was the longest for an Arkansas State player since 2007.
