CFB-D2: Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Week 1 Release

Week 1 of the 2024 GLIAC football season kicks off on Thursday (Sept. 5), with five conference squads in action. Two more teams will be on the gridiron on Saturday (Sept. 7).

The debut of Roosevelt under the GLIAC standard will come next weekend when the Lakers host UW-Whitewater at their home field in Arlington Heights, Ill. 

Year 2 of the Tyrone Wheatley era at Wayne State gets underway at 6 p.m. on Thursday when the Warriors travel to the Buckeye State to face G-MAC foe Tiffin. 

Coming off a tough overtime road loss to No. 25 Bemidji State, Michigan Tech opens at home versus South Dakota Mines. Game time is 6 p.m. in Houghton.

Northern Michigan is on the road after beginning the season at home with a Week Zero matchup against No. 17 Minnesota Duluth. The Wildcats meet Kentucky Wesleyan at 7 p.m. 

Two-time defending GLIAC champion and No. 4-ranked Grand Valley State starts the 2024 campaign at home versus Central State. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale. 

Saginaw Valley State travels to Winona State for a Week 1 showdown with NSIC foe Winona State, completing a home-and-home arrangement. A year ago, the Cardinals bested the Warriors, 34-24, in University Center. 

On Saturday, Davenport, which received votes in the AFCA Preseason poll, heads south for a contest with G-MAC opponent Thomas More. Kick off is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Ferris State returns home to Big Rapids after beginning the season at No. 6 Pittsburg State. The Bulldogs host Lake Erie for a 6 p.m. game at Top Taggart Field.
