Prior to tonight’s game against the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies recalled infielder Kody Clemens and right-handed pitcher Tyler Phillips from triple-A Lehigh Valley, expanding the roster to 28 players.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Clemens, 28, batted .242 (15-62) with a .777 OPS, five doubles, one triple, three home runs and 10 RBI in his first two stints (24 games) with the Phillies this season. In August, the left-handed hitter slashed .326/.385/.568 (.953 OPS) in 25 games for the IronPigs. Among qualified players in the International League during the month, he ranked tied for second in total bases (54), tied for fifth in hits (31), sixth in slugging percentage and 10th in OPS. Originally selected by the Detroit Tigers in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft, Clemens was acquired by the Phillies in a trade with Detroit on Jan. 7, 2023.
Phillips, 26, went 4-1 with a 5.50 ERA (22 ER, 36.0 IP), 27 strikeouts and seven walks over seven appearances (six starts) during his only stint with the Phillies this year. On July 27 against the Cleveland Guardians, the Lumberton, N.J., native became the first Phillies rookie to throw a complete-game shutout since Zach Eflin in 2016. Phillips was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 16th round of the 2015 MLB Draft, and he was claimed off waivers by the Phillies from Texas on July 24, 2021.
