Houston sends minor league RHP Kelly Austin to Yankees

HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Astros have acquired left-handed reliever Caleb Ferguson from the New York Yankees in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Kelly Austin and international bonus pool money.

Astros General Manager Dana Brown will be available to the media following today’s trade deadline.

Ferguson, 28, has pitched six-plus seasons in the Majors Leagues for the Los Angeles Dodgers (2018-23) and the Yankees (2024). In 42 appearances for the Yankees this season, he’s recorded a 5.13 ERA (19ER/33.1IP) with 41 strikeouts. For his career, Ferguson has notched a 3.66 ERA (98ER/240.2IP) with 288 strikeouts and a .237 opponent batting average in 243 appearances.

Austin, 23, recorded a 2.21 ERA (9ER/36.2IP) with 46 strikeouts, a 1.01 WHIP and a .216 opponent batting average in 26 appearances between Low A Fayetteville and High A Asheville. Austin was signed by the Astros as a non-drafted free agent following the 2023 MLB Draft from UCLA.
