New York Mets acquire RHP Huascar Brazoban

FLUSHING, N.Y., – The New York Mets today announced they have acquired right-handed pitcher Huascar Brazobán from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor league infielder Wilfredo Lara. In a corresponding move, catcher Logan Porter has been designated for assignment.

The 34-year-old has appeared in 20 games with the Marlins this year, going 1-2 with a 2.93 ERA (10 ER/30.2 IP) with 11 walks and 34 strikeouts. Since his season debut on June 1, Brazobán is tied for second in the majors among relievers in strikeouts and third in innings. In eight appearances this month, he has tossed 13.2 innings allowing only two unearned runs with one walk and 16 strikeouts. Opponents are batting .179 (20-112) this season and he has surrendered one home run. In addition, 10 of his 20 outings this season have been at least 1.1 innings.

He has appeared in 97 major league games across three seasons all with the Marlins, combining to go 7-5 with a 3.56 ERA (48 ER/121.IP) with 63 walks and 139 strikeouts.

Lara, 20, has played four seasons across three levels in the Mets organization. In 250 career minor league games, Lara has hit .247/.348/.390 with 21 home runs and 104 RBI.
