Pittsburgh Pirates acquire left-handed pitcher Josh Walker from the New York Mets

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired left-handed pitcher Josh Walker from the New York Mets in exchange for minor league left-handed pitcher Nicolas Carreno.

Walker made a total of 10 appearances this season with the Mets, where he posted a 2.08 ERA (8.2ip/2er) in his first eight outings before allowing a combined five runs in 3.2 innings in his next two appearances.

The 29-year-old Walker also made 25 appearances this season with Triple-A Syrcause, where he went 2-2 with five saves, a 2.83 ERA (28.2ip/9er), 39 strikeouts and .157 batting average against.

Walker made his big league debut with the Mets in 2023, where he struck out 25 percent (12 of 48) of the batters he faced in 14 relief appearances.

Walker was selected by the Mets in the 37th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft. Since making his professional debut in 2017, Walker has posted a 19-13 record with nine saves, a 3.85 ERA (257.1ip/110er) and 285 strikeouts in 109 appearances (29 starts) in the minor leagues.

Walker will report to Triple-A Indianapolis.
