LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers activated right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly from the injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Michael Petersen. Left-handed pitcher Jose Hernández was outrighted and cleared waivers to make room for Kelly on the 40-man roster.

Kelly, 36, has been on the injured list since May 5 with a right posterior shoulder strain. He made five rehab starts (one start), allowing four runs in 3.2 innings with six strikeouts. The Southern California native is 0-0 with a 4.73 ERA in 15 games this season. He has been in the Major Leagues parts of 13 seasons with St. Louis (2012-14), Boston (2014-18), Los Angeles (2019-21, 23-24) and Chicago-AL (2022-23) and he is 53-37 with 746 strikeouts in 820.1 innings. He signed with the Dodgers on December 11.

Petersen, 31, recorded his third win of the season last Friday in Detroit. He went 3-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 12.0 innings in nine games for the Dodgers. He has appeared in 23 games for the Oklahoma City with a perfect 2-0 record and a 1.61 ERA. He has pitched in the minor leagues for eight seasons, tossing 263 innings in 167 games (18 starts) with a 10-11 record and 4.04 ERA before being selected for the first time on June 16. He was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 17th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Riverside Community College.
