Oakland A’s Place RHP Medina on the IL; Recall RHP Otañez from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s placed right-handed pitcher Luis Medina on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow sprain and recalled right-handed pitcher Michel Otañez from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Medina was reinstated from the 60-day injured list on June 1 and made his season debut the next day. He has made eight appearances, all starts, and is 2-4 with a 5.18 ERA, 32 strikeouts, 20 walks, and four home runs allowed in 40.0 innings pitched with the A’s this season. He gave up six runs in 5.0 innings in his last start on Thursday in Boston.

Otañez was optioned yesterday and returns to the A’s after missing one game. He rejoined the A’s for the second time in 2024 on July 9 and pitched twice against Boston, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and three walks. The 27-year-old right-hander is 7-1 with a save and a 5.35 ERA in 29 relief appearances overall at Triple-A.
