Los Angeles Dodgers place Tyler Glasnow on injured list

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Michael Petersen from Triple-A and placed right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow on the injured list with lower back tightness, retroactive to July 6.

Petersen, 31, returns for his second stint with the club after making six appearances, including his Major League debut on June 18 with the Dodgers. He went 2-0 with a 4.66 ERA in 9.1 innings in his first Major League stint. He has appeared in 23 games for the Oklahoma City with a perfect 2-0 record and a 1.61 ERA. He pitched in the minor leagues for eight seasons, tossing 263 innings in 167 games (18 starts) with a 10-11 record and 4.04 ERA before being selected for the first time on June 16. He was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 17th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Riverside Community College.

Glasnow, 30, was selected to his first career All-Star Game on Sunday afternoon. He made 18 starts in the first half for the Dodgers, going 8-5 with a 3.47 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 109 innings. His 143 strikeouts lead the Major Leagues and are the most strikeouts prior to the All-Star Game in Dodger history since Clayton Kershaw fanned 159 batters in 2017. His 11.81 strikeout per nine innings is second best in the Major Leagues behind Garret Crochet (Chicago-AL). He leads the team in innings pitched, strikeouts, starts and WHIP (0.93). The Southern California native is in his ninth Major League season and is 38-32 with a 3.82 ERA and 821 strikeouts in 638.2 innings.
