Cleveland Guardians complete two roster moves

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the following transactions relative to the 40-man roster:

Acquired RHP Spencer Howard from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for cash considerations; optioned to AAA Columbus.

Designated RHP Wes Parsons for assignment.

Howard, 27, owns a 4-12 record with a 6.93 ERA (107ER/139.0IP) and 130 strikeouts in 45 career appearances/31 starts across 5 MLB seasons with Philadelphia (2020-21), Texas (2021-23) and San Francisco (2024). The right-hander is 1-1 with a 5.63 ERA (15ER/24.0IP) in 7 appearances/2 starts this season after signing with the Giants on February 20 and opening day season with AAA Sacramento (5.90 ERA, 26ER/39.2IP/57SO). He was recently designated for assignment by San Francisco on June 30.

The San Luis Obispo, CA native was originally selected by Philadelphia in the 2nd round (45th overall) out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, debuting with the Phillies during the 2020 season before being traded to the Rangers at the 2021 trade deadline. He was a non-roster invitee to spring training by San Francisco this off-season. Howard has held left-handed hitters to a .220 (11-for-50) batting average this year.

He will report to the Major League club in in the coming days.
