The Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) announced that gambling industry suppliers will be able to apply for a B2B license from September 1, 2024. This announcement comes as Denmark prepares to introduce a mandatory licensing system.
For context, starting on January 1, 2025, suppliers of betting and casino games will only be able to offer their products to operators if they have a license. This would effectively provide B2B companies with four months to secure a license prior to the introduction of the new rules.
The Spillemyndigheden added that additional information and new application forms are available on its official website. The For Businesses and Associations segment under the Game Suppliers section contains all the information interested parties would need.
The Spillemyndigheden also noted that all of the suppliers’ games, platforms, procedures and business systems must be tested by an independent testing lab in accordance with the authority’s certification requirements.
The regulator added that its overhauled certification program will make everyone’s responsibilities easier to understand by making clear what the operators and suppliers are, respectively, responsible for.
The new program will be consulted with industry stakeholders in July 2024 and, as mentioned, is set to come into effect on January 1, 2025.
In addition to introducing new B2B licenses, the Spillemyndigheden will also launch a new portal for managing game certificates. The new portal is expected to launch on October 1, 2024, and will contain important information.
The Spillemyndigheden will provide login information to game supplier applicants, allowing them to upload information and game certificates as part of the application process.
The regulator concluded that both game certificates and other certifications that fulfill the requirements of the current version of the certification program will continue to be valid. This means that supplies whose systems and games have already been tested will not need to re-apply.
However, operators will need to use the new certification program from July 1. The Danish regulator advised them to adopt it as soon as possible.
In other news, the Spillemyndigheden recently revised its AML and CFT guidance, which acts as a supplement to the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority’s (Finanstilsynet’s) Guidance on the Act on Preventive Measures against Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism.
The revised version of the document outlined a number of measures operators and other relevant gambling industry stakeholders should adopt in order to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
