Reliever is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 season

HOUSTON, TX – Astros right-handed pitcher Oliver Ortega underwent surgery yesterday to remove a bone spur in his right elbow. As a result, he is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 season.

This was the second surgical procedure that Ortega has undergone this season. In March, he underwent surgery on his right elbow to remove loose bodies. He has been on the Injured List since March (since prior to the start of the regular season).

Ortega, 27, was claimed off waivers by the Astros from the Twins on Oct. 5, 2023, and appeared in two Spring Training games for the Astros this season, both in relief. He has made 45 relief appearances in the Major Leagues over parts of three seasons with the Angels (2021-22) and Twins (2023), posting a 4.03 ERA in 58.0 innings of work with one save.
