The Astros will announce a corresponding move later today.

Abreu, who hit .124 (14X113) in 35 games (31 starts) this season with two home runs and seven RBI, joined the Astros after signing a three-year deal as a free agent on November 28, 2022.

In 2023, he helped the Astros to a third consecutive A.L. West title with 18 home runs and 90 RBI, which included an A.L.-best 28 RBI in September/October. In the postseason, he helped the Astros advance to within one win of a third consecutive World Series appearance with four home runs and 13 RBI in 11 postseason games with a .945 OPS.

In his 11 Major League seasons, Abreu has hit .283 in 1,446 games with 263 home runs and 960 RBI while posting an .833 OPS. His 960 RBI since his debut in 2014 are tops in the A.L. in that span.
