Max Verstappen wants to forget the entire weekend in Monaco. Everything went wrong for him since the practice session. He finished the race in sixth position, which is his worst finish since 2022.
Nevertheless, he remains at the very top of the 2024 F1 Drivers’ Championship standings, where he’ll stay no matter what happens at the Canadian GP. However, what he wants to happen in Canada on June 9 is to win the race.
It would be his sixth win of the 2024 Formula One season, as well as his third win in Canada. He won the previous two editions of the Canadian GP, and if he does it again, he’ll climb to the shared third spot on the list of the most successful F1 drivers in this event.
Obviously, he’s got the motivation to win, as well as the skills and the car needed to do it. On top of everything, he’s got plenty of time to prepare for the race and analyze all the bad things that led to him finishing sixth in his last outing. The thing is that the Canadian GP is taking place two weeks after the one in Monaco.
Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and Carlos Sainz Jr. are the only three drivers other than Verstappen who won the race in the 2024 Formula 1. They’re all seen as potential candidates to add another trophy to their collection on June 9.
It’s Leclerc and Norris who are seen as Verstappen’s two main rivals, each with the Canadian GP odds shorter than +1000. No surprise there as both of them have been in great shape lately.
This goes especially for Leclerc, whom many think of as the only driver who could challenge for the title this season. Leclerc finished in the Top 4 in each race of the 2024 campaign, with the Monaco one marking his finest performance in years.
