LHP Alex Wood Placed on 15-Day IL; LHP Brady Basso Optioned to Las Vegas
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s selected right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks and recalled left-handed pitcher Hogan Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. The A’s also placed left-handed pitcher Alex Wood on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 13 with left rotator cuff tendonitis and optioned left-handed pitcher Brady Basso to Las Vegas. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s transferred infielder Darell Hernaiz to the 60-day injured list.
Brooks is scheduled to make his first start in the majors today since Sept. 13, 2019 with Baltimore. He is 1-6 with a 4.57 ERA and .733 opponents OPS in eight starts with Las Vegas. The 34-year-old right-hander has not allowed a home run in 43.1 innings and his innings pitched are the most among all minor league pitchers with no home runs. Brooks was originally selected by Kansas City in the 9th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft and has pitched in the majors with the Royals (2014-15), A’s (2015, 18-19), Orioles (2019) and Cardinals (2022).
Harris joins the A’s for the second time this year. He was called up for the first time on May 6, pitched 5.1 innings of relief against Texas on May 7 (8 h, 4 r, 4 er, 1 bb, 5 so) and was optioned back to Las Vegas the next day. The 27-year-old left-hander made one appearance with the Aviators following his option, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings at Round Rock on Sunday, and is 1-1 with a 7.56 ERA in seven starts with Las Vegas.
Wood was the A’s Opening Day starter and is 1-3 with a 5.26 ERA and .927 opponents OPS in nine starts. He is 1-1 with a 2.04 ERA over his last four starts after going 0-2 with a 7.80 ERA over his first five starts. Basso was recalled from Double-A Midland yesterday but did not pitch. He combined for a 1-2 record and a 5.53 ERA in seven minor league starts with Midland and Las Vegas. Hernaiz was placed on the injured list May 8 with a left ankle injury after batting .182 with six RBI in 29 games over two stints with the A’s.
