Prior to tonight’s game against the San Francisco Giants, the Phillies placed shortstop Trea Turner on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, the club recalled infielder Kody Clemens from triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Turner, 30, was named National League Player of the Week for the third time in his career on April 22 after batting .462 (12-26) with five doubles, a home run, four RBI, a walk and 10 runs scored in six games. He collected an extra-base hit in a career-high seven straight games from April 13-20. Turner has started each of the Phillies’ 33 games this season, slashing .343/.392/.460 with an .852 OPS.
Originally selected 13th overall by the San Diego Padres in the 2014 MLB Draft, Turner was signed by the Phillies as a free agent on Dec. 8, 2022.
Clemens, 27, went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI on April 22 at Cincinnati, his lone major league appearance of the season in his first stint with the Phillies. In 23 games for the IronPigs this season, he has slashed .247/.327/.419 with five doubles, one triple, three home runs, 16 RBI and 17 runs scored. Defensively, he has made 10 starts at second base, five starts in left field and three starts at third base.
Clemens was acquired by the Phillies in a trade with the Detroit Tigers on Jan. 7, 2023. He was originally selected by the Tigers in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
