COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Fury (8-13) fell 3-1 (26-24, 22-25, 18-25, 20-25) to Omaha (14-7) on Saturday night at Nationwide Arena.
Set One
The two teams came out looking evenly matched in the first set as the Fury needed an extra point to eke out the 26-24 first set win. Reagan Cooper dominated for Columbus with eight kills on a 40% attacking percentage. The Fury defense looked strong, as well, holding Omaha to an attacking percentage of just 11% in the opening set. Setter Tori Stringer also looked good in the set with 15 assists, eight digs and a kill.
Set Two
Omaha flipped the script in the second set with a much stronger attack and overwhelming defense. The Supernovas brought their attacking percentage up to 20% while limiting the Fury to just 9% attacking in the second. Cooper once again led the Fury attack with five kills in the set.
Set Three
The Fury stayed with Omaha for most of the third set, but couldn’t rally back after a seven-point run that gave the Supernovas a 24-17 lead. Columbus struggled to defend Omaha’s attack as Bethania De La Cruz tallied seven kills for the Supernovas, and Brooke Nuneviller added five of her own.
Set Four
Columbus continued to struggle on the attack in the fourth set. The Fury were led by Kipp, who added up five kills, and Kaitlyn Hord, who went two-for-two on attacks. Jenaisya Moore also checked into the game for the Fury and logged two digs.
Standout Stats
- The Fury defense limited leading attacker Nuneviller to just 15 kills on 51 attacks, for a 18% attack percentage.
- Cooper once again led the Fury attack with 17 kills.
- Kipp also logged a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs.
