Alex “Poatan” Pereira is 9-2 overall with one of his losses happening on his MMA debut when he got submitted in the third round by Brazilian fighter Quemuel Ottoni. His second career loss happened to Israel Adesanya in the fight for the UFC Middleweight title.
A few months after losing the title fight, Pereira moved to the Light Heavyweight Division of the UFC, where he defeated Jan Blachowicz by a split decision in the summer of 2023. A few months later, he was given a shot at the title, in which he defeated Jiri Prochazka by a technical knockout.
Now, he’s fighting his third fight in the 205lb division against a guy who’s been a light heavyweight his whole career.
Alex Pereira is widely considered one of the best strikers in the UFC, the main reasons being that he’s got a knockout-to-win percentage of over 77% and that he lands 5 significant strikes per minute. This, however, doesn’t mean Jamahal Hill can’t do well against him.
This guy lands more than 7 significant strikes a minute and seven of his 12 career wins happened by KO/TKO. Hill has lost only one fight in his career – Paul Craig beat him by TKO in 2021.
He also got one of his fights declared no contest. It happened after he tested positive for marijuana after a fight he won by a TKO.
Hill is a former champ, who won the UFC Light Heavyweight title last year after beating Glover Teixeira by unanimous decision. He later vacated the title due to an injury but is determined to get it back at UFC 300. Both fighters are primarily strikers, so we can expect to see a kickboxing-style duel in the UFC 300 main event. Pereira is probably better when it comes to striking, but when it comes to power, it’s Hill who has a big advantage.
