SEATTLE, WA. – Seattle Reign FC has signed midfielder Maddie Mercado through the 2024 NWSL season, the club announced today. Mercado was the 27th overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft.

“I’m so excited to officially sign with the Reign. Since getting drafted, the coaches, players and staff have truly helped me feel prepared,” said Mercado. “We’re always competing at a high level throughout training and the culture is very supportive. This group is special and I’m so happy to be a part of it.”

The midfielder out of University of Notre Dame signs with Seattle after registering 62 starts in 94 appearances with the Fighting Irish. She scored 26 goals and added 12 assists at Notre Dame, earning Second Team All-ACC honors in 2023 and Third Team All-ACC honors in 2022. Mercado was also named to the All-ACC Academic Team three times.

“Maddie Mercado is an extremely talented player with a very high ceiling. She has had a consistent preseason amongst a talented group of midfielders,” said Seattle Reign FC General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “We can’t wait to see her continue to develop and contribute to the club’s success.”

The San Diego, California, native has also played for the U.S. Women’s Youth National Team between the Under-14 and Under-19 levels. Mercado was named to the U-19 team for the La Manga Tournament in Spain in 2020 and was rostered on the U-16 team that won the Torneo delle Nazioni in 2017.
