Dodgers add Daniel Hudson

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have added right-handed pitcher Daniel Hudson to the 40-man roster and designated infielder Andre Lipcius for assignment.

Hudson, 37, returns for his third straight season with the Dodgers after recording one save in three appearances in 2023 for Los Angeles. He allowed two hits without giving up a run in 3.0 innings before suffering a season-ending knee injury on July 5. In 2022, he was 2-3 with five saves and a 2.22 ERA before tearing his ACL on June 24 against the Braves. The Virginia native has been in the Major Leagues parts of 14 seasons with Chicago-AL (2009-10), Arizona (2010-16), Pittsburgh (2017), Los Angeles (2018, 2022-24), Toronto (2019), Washington (2019-21) and San Diego (2021) and he is a combined 59-43 with a 3.79 ERA and 754 strikeouts in 792.1 innings. He was originally drafted by the the White Sox in the fifth round of the 2008 First Year Player Draft out of Old Dominion University.

Lipcius, 25, joined the Dodgers on March 4, playing in two exhibition games for Los Angeles, going 2-for-4. Last season, he appeared in 13 games for the Tigers, hitting .286 with a double and a homer. He began his professional career in 2019 in the Detroit Tigers organization, and in four seasons, he hit a combined .266 with 88 doubles, 38 homers and 212 RBI. He was originally drafted by the Tigers in the third round of the 2019 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Tennessee.
