— Carolina is facing Ottawa in the second of three meetings between the teams during the 2023-24 season. The Hurricanes will return to Canadian Tire Centre on 3/17. — The Hurricanes and Senators are meeting for the 115th time in their regular-season histories. Carolina holds a 62-39-8-5 overall record, including a 25-26-4-3 road record and a 43-35-5-5 record since relocation. — Carolina leads the season series 1-0-0 in 2023-24 (Ottawa: 0-1-0), and the Hurricanes are 11-5-0 in the teams’ last 16 meetings dating back to 2/24/17 (Senators: 5-9-2). — The Hurricanes posted a 5-3 win in their season opener against the Senators at PNC Arena on 10/11. He was acquired from CHI along with Gustav Forsling in exchange for Calvin de Haan and Aleksi Saarela on 6/24/19 and signed as a free agent with EDM on 10/9/20. The Hurricanes re-claimed Forsberg on waivers from the Oilers on 1/12/21, but he was again claimed off waivers by WPG three days later. — Ridly Greig’s father, Mark, was selected by Hartford in the first round (15th overall) of the 1990 NHL Draft and tallied 22 points (5g, 17a) in 74 NHL games with the Whalers from 1990-94. He was traded to TOR on 1/25/94, along with a sixth-round pick in the 1995 NHL Draft (Doug Bonner), in exchange for Ted Crowley. — Jake Sanderson’s father, Geoff, was selected by Hartford in the second round (36th overall) of the 1990 NHL Draft and skated in 479 games with the Whalers/Hurricanes from 1991-97, posting 369 points (196g, 173a). He still ranks eighth in franchise history in goals and seventh in power-play goals (26). Geoff was traded to VAN, along with Sean Burke and Enrico Ciccone, in exchange for Martin Gelinas and Kirk McLean on 1/3/98.

FACING ADVERSITY

The Hurricanes have opened this six-game road trip with four straight regulation losses (12/4-12/9), marking the team’s first such streak in over four years (last: 0-4-0 from 11/2/19-11/9/19). Carolina is now set to face Ottawa on Tuesday, hoping to avoid a fifth consecutive regulation loss for the first time in Rod Brind’Amour’s six seasons as head coach (last: 0-5-0 from 1/17/17-1/26/17). The Hurricanes have also lost four straight road contests in regulation for the first time since 2019-20 (0-5-0 from 12/23/19-2/4/20), and they have done so on a single road trip for the first time since 2014-15 (10/21/18-10/28/18), when they were swept by the four Western Canadian teams (10/21 at WPG, 10/23 at CGY, 10/24 at EDM, 10/28 at VAN) for the only other time in team history (since relocation).
