CALGARY FLAMES NOTES:
TONIGHTS STORYLINES & STATS
This is the second of four meetings this season between the Flames and Canucks. The Flames won in the club’s first matchup back on November 16th by a 5-2 score. This is a Pacific Division matchup; the Flames have a record of 4-1-0 against Pacific Division teams and a record of 8-5-0 against Western Conference opponents.
LAST MEETING WITH VAN:
The Flames and Canucks squared off in their 300th regular season meeting just over two weeks ago in Calgary on November 16th. The Canucks would open the scoring mid-way through the first with Elias Pettersson capitalizing on a Vancouver power play to make it 1-0 for the visitors. With just under three minutes left in the opening frame, MacKenzie Weegar would zip home his third on the campaign to draw the Flames level through 20. The middle stanza would be all Flames, with Calgary more than tripling Vancouver’s shot total, culminating in Dillon Dube and Noah Hanifin scoring two unanswered tallies to make it 3-1 Flames. Jonathan Huberdeau would shelf his third on the season just over three minutes into the third to extend the Flames lead to 4-1. Nils Hoglander gave Vancouver life midway through the frame, but a Flames empty netter along with seven third period saves from Jacob Markstrom helped the Flames take game number one of the season-series 5-2.
DOME SWEET DOME:
The Flames approach the midway point of a six-game home stand and look to continue their strong play at the ‘Dome. The Flames have recorded points in five-straight games on home ice and following tonight the home side will welcome Minnesota, Carolina, and finish off on December 9th against New Jersey. This will be one of two six-game homestands for the Flames this season, as they will play six-straight on home ice from January 16th to 27th prior to the NHL All-Star break.
