CONFERENCE NEWS AND NOTES

The Big 12 has the tightest conference race in the nation. With two regular season games left to play, eight teams are within two games of each other.

Texas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, K-State, Iowa State, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Kansas are all still in contention for a spot in the Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship game.

Seven Big 12 teams (Iowa State, Kansas, K-State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and West Virginia) have reached bowl eligibility. BYU, UCF and Texas Tech are one win away.

The Big 12 has placed five teams in the first two CFP Polls. Texas checked in at No. 7 for the second week, followed by No. 15 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Kansas, No. 17 Oklahoma and No. 25 K-State.

The Big 12 has two of the four teams with three wins over CFP Top 25 teams.

The Big 12 is one of three leagues in which every team has at least three overall wins.

Among conferences, the Big 12 is first in rushing yards per game (170.1), second in total yards (418.9) and third in passing yards (248.8) and scoring (29.8).

The Big 12 has six of the top 25 teams in total offense: 4. Oklahoma (505.4), 8. UCF (494.5), 14. Texas (459.3), 16. TCU (454.9), 20. K-State (452.5) and 25. Cincinnati (443.9).

UCF was named the Cheez-It National Team of the Week after its win over No. 15 Oklahoma State. UCF HC Gus Malzahn secured the 100th win of his career. With a career record of 100-52 all-time and 23-14 at UCF, Malzahn becomes the fourth active head coach in the Big 12 to reach the century mark.
