  • Brett Gabbert threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns and added a career-best two rushing scores as the Miami University football team captured its sixth-straight win, downing Western Michigan 34-21 on Saturday. The RedHawks (6-1, 3-0 MAC) are off to their best start since 2003. With the win, Miami is bowl eligible for the seventh time in the past eight years.
  • Junior Peny Boone’s three-yard touchdown run with 1:31 remaining lifted Toledo to a 13-6 Mid-American Conference win over Ball State at a rain-soaked Scheumann Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The victory moved the Rockets’ record to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league play and extended their winning streak to six games. Toledo also earned bowl eligibility for the 14th consecutive season, the eighth-longest streak in the country.
  • Central Michigan held Akron to under 200 yards in total offense as CMU defeated the Zips, 17-10, on Saturday afternoon. The Chippewas intercepted two passes while Tristan Mattson set a new program record with a 58-yard field goal to help Central Michigan earn its fourth win of the season and move to 2-1 in MAC play.
  • Eastern Michigan improved to 4-3 on the year and 2-1 in conference competition with a 28-14 victory over Kent State at The Factory on Saturday. Samson Evans found the end zone twice on the ground and passed the 2,000-yard mark for his career with 47 yards.
  • Northern Illinois scored the final 16 points of its MAC showdown against Ohio to post a 23-13 Homecoming victory in DeKalb last Saturday. The Huskies found the end zone on two plays of 50-plus yards to post its second-straight MAC win.
  • Bowling Green forced five Buffalo turnovers, highlighted by four interceptions, and scored 24 unanswered points to pick up a 24- 14 road win last Saturday. The Falcon 24-0 run was capped off by a blocked punt returned for a touchdown by PaSean Wimberly.

MAC NOTES

  • RedHawks, Rockets Become Bowl Eligible with Week 7 Wins The Week 7 #MACtion slate was highlighted by Miami and Toledo, who both extended their winning streaks to six games and became the first teams in the conference to become bowl eligible. The RedHawks (6-1, 3-0 MAC) are off to their best start since 2003 and bowl eligible for the seventh time in the past eight years. The victory moved the Rockets’ record to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league play and extended their winning streak to six games.   • MAC Continues Success over FBS Opponents The Mid-American Conference has claimed four victories over a power-five opponent as well as 10 wins over a non-conference FBS opponent this season, both of which are the most since 2017.

Miami is 6-1 for the first time since 2003 and has posted its first six-game win streak since the 2016 RedHawks began the season 0-6 and won their next six to advance to the St. Petersburg Bowl. Toledo’s Week 7 win makes the Rockets 6-1 for the first time since 2017. It is also the first time Toledo has won six straight since the 2015 season when they began the season 7-0. Overall, Miami and Toledo are just two of 13 teams in the nation who currently own a six-game win streak or better.

  • Boone Ranks Top-15 Nationally in Rushing after Hot Streak Toledo junior running back Peny Boone has surpassed 100 rushing yards in five-straight games and heads into Week 8 as the only player in the MAC to reach that mark five times this season. Through six games, Boone ranks top-10 nationally in rushing yards, rushing yards per game, rushing yards per carry, total touchdowns and rushing touchdowns.

  • Evans Breaks EMU Career Touchdown Record With a two-yard rushing touchdown two weeks ago, running back Samson Evans became Eastern Michigan’s all-time touchdown leader with his 32nd TD of his career. Evans also owns the program’s rushing touchdown record. With 47 yards last week, Evans eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark (2,015).
