2 MINUTE DRILL

  • Bowling Green defeated Georgia Tech, 38-27, in Atlanta for the program’s first win over an ACC opponent. With the win over GT, Bowling Green was named the CHEEZ-IT National Team of the Week. Trailing 14-0 in the first quarter, the Falcons rattled off 38 unanswered points. Connor Bazelak and Terion Stewart each surpassed career yardage marks in the game. Bazelak eclipsed 8,000 passing yards and 40 touchdowns for his collegiate career, and Stewart topped the 1,000-yard mark in his BGSU career.
  • Toledo improved 4-1 on the season with a 35-33 win over NIU. The Rockets have now won four straight for the first time since 2019. Dequan Finn completed 16-of-20 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 61 yards and a TD. Peny Boone rushed for 113 yards on 16 carries, his third straight game with 100- plus rushing yards.
  • Western Michigan’s Lance Taylor picked up his first career conference win as the Broncos topped Ball State, 42-24.
  • Buffalo picked up its first win of the 2023 season with a 13-10 victory at Akron last week. Devin Grant blocked a potential game-tying field
    goal in overtime to secure the win.
  • Central Michigan won its second-straight game, and its first conference game, of the 2023 season with a thrilling 26-23 victory over Eastern Michigan in front of the 10th-largerst crowd in program history.
  • After a 23-3 win versus Kent State, Miami is now 4-1 for the first time since 2003. Brett Gabbert tossed the 55th touchdown pass of his career to move into fourth all-time in Miami history while the RedHawk defense tallied a season-high seven sacks in the victory.

  • Falcons Fly Flag Against ACC Foe Georgia Tech; Receive National Team of the Week Honors
    The Bowling Green Falcons scored 38 unanswered points to stage an historic comeback, gaining the program’s first win over a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference in a 38-27 win at Georgia Tech last week. Coming back from a 14-0 deficit to win made the Falcons the Cheez-It National Team of the Week, as selected by the All-America Committee of the Football Writers Association of America.

Additionally, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Miami, Western Michigan and Toledo claimed conference wins during the Week 5 slate.

  • MAC Continues Success over FBS Opponents
    Thanks to the 38-27 win by Bowling Green over Georgia Tech in Atlanta last weekend, the Mid-American Conference has now claimed four victories over a power-five opponent, its most since 2017, as well as nine wins over a non-conference FBS opponent this season.

  • Ohio’s Defense Among Best in Nation
    Off to a 4-1 (1-0 MAC) start, the Ohio Bobcats boast one of the top defenses in the nation. Overall, Ohio ranks in the top-10 nationally in nine defensive categories:

  • Ground Attack: Buckley, Boone Rank Top-25 Nationally in Rushing
    Western Michigan redshirt freshman running back Jalen Buckley and Toledo junior running back Peny Boone are off to a strong start. Through five games, Buckley and Boone rank top-25 nationally in rushing yards, rushing yards per game and rushing touchdowns.

Boone heads into Week 6 with three-straight 100-yard rushing performances, while Buckley has found the end zone three times in the last two weeks. The MAC is one of three conferences nationwide to have multiple 100-yard rushers at this point of the season.

  • Evans Ties EMU Career Touchdown Record
    With a five-yard rushing touchdown last week, Eastern Michigan running back Samson Evans tied Gary Patton (1984-87) for the most career touchdowns by an Eastern Michigan player ever (31). Evans already owns the program’s rushing touchdown record and is just 74 yards away from reaching the 2,000-yard mark.
  • Hiliare Keeps Catch Streak Alive
    Bowling Green wide receiver Odieu Hiliare caught two passes for 20 yards in the Falcons’ Fly the Flag victory at Georgia Tech last week. Hiliare has now caught a pass in 40-straight games, the sixth longest active streak in the country:

  • RedHawks Off To Best Start Since 2003
    The Miami RedHawks opened MAC play with a 23-3 victory on the road at Kent State on Saturday to move to 4-1 on the season, its best start since 2003. Miami faces off against Bowling Green in Week 6 and will look to open conference play 2-0 for the first time since 2010. Overall, Miami’s 717 career wins ranks third all-time among Group-of-Five programs, behind just Navy (734) and Army (722) and ranks first all-time in the Mid-American Conference in wins (717), conference wins (311), MAC Championships (16) and bowl wins (8).
