HOUSTON – The Houston Dash have acquired Mexican Women’s National Team goalkeeper and Dash Youth alum Emily Alvarado from Stade de Reims Féminines within the French Top Division, the team announced today. Alvarado is signed for 2023 season with an option for 2024.
“We’re excited to add Emily to our squad. She is a young, talented, and ambitious keeper that brings a winning mentality to our locker room. Her professional and international experience under her belt will bring competition and depth to our talented goalkeeper group. We look forward to having her in Houston,” said Houston Dash General Manager Alex Singer.
Alvarado, who joined Reims Féminines prior to the start of the 2021-2022 season, made 39 career appearances for the French side, starting in every match since her arrival while tallying nearly 150 career saves.
The El Paso, Texas native played collegiately at Texas Christian University, making 58 career appearances for the Horned Frogs. During her senior season, Alvarado appeared and started in 15 games and ranked fifth nationally among goalkeepers with at least 10 games played with an 0.882 save percentage. Alvarado finished her collegiate career ranked 13th nationally with 0.54 goals against average and became the TCU’s All-Time career leader in shutouts with 21 after posting nine during the season. The First-Team All-American also noted career honors as a 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, was named to the 2020 All-Big 12 First Team and was named the 2020 Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Year.
Alvarado made her senior debut with the Mexican Women’s National Team on May 26, 2019, in an international friendly against the U.S Women’s National Team. The Mexican-American product has made 12 appearances for El Tri since her debut, including matches during the CONCACAF W series the summer of 2022 in Monterrey, Mexico. At the age of 16, Alvarado made history as the youngest member to represent Mexican Women’s National Team during the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
Alvarado currently plays alongside Houston Dash and Mexican Women’s National Team forwards María Sánchez and Diana Ordóñez.
