MLS Preview: Seattle Sounders FC (10-13-2) at Los Angeles Galaxy (10-11-3)

Seattle is unbeaten in eight straight matches against the Galaxy in MLS play (W5 D3), including a 3-2 victory on March 12. The Sounders could equal the longest unbeaten streak against the Galaxy in MLS history on Friday (RedBulls – 9 straight from 2003-06, including playoffs)

The Galaxy scored four first-half goals for the first time since 2016 in their 5-2 win over the Whitecaps on Saturday. This was just the second time in the last six seasons that LA scored at least five goals in an MLS match after doing so 30 times (including playoffs)in its first 21 MLS seasons (1996-2016).

Seattle’s loss to Real Salt Lake on Sunday was its 13th defeat of the season. A loss to the Galaxy on Friday would equal the most defeats in a single season in club history: 14 in the 2016 campaign in which they went on to win the MLS Cup.

The Galaxy’s substitutes have stepped up this season, combining for 24 goal contributions, most in MLS (10 goals, 14 assists). Dejan Joveljic has led the way with six goals and three assists off the bench, contributing to a goal in six of his last seven MLS sub appearances.

Seattle’s 2-1 defeat to Real Salt Lake on Sunday was its seventh loss in its last ten games. the last time Seattle lost seven times in a span of 10 MLS matches was May – July 2016, with the only coaching change in the club’s MLS history being made after the last loss in that stretch.
