NHL Morning Skate – Nov. 1, 2026

* Hockey Halloween delivered plenty of treats, including an Original Six overtime thriller that featured David Pastrnak moving up the Bruins’ all-time goals list and Patrick Kane becoming the first U.S.-born player to reach the 900-assist mark.

* Connor McDavid concluded his productive October by becoming the first player to post 35 points in a calendar month since Mario Lemieux in 1992-93 as the Oilers skated to a sixth straight road victory.

* Pyotr Kochetkov could improve to 10-0-0 when the defending Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes host the Jets to begin November’s slate of games.

KANE, PASTRNAK TRADE MILESTONES IN ORIGINAL SIX THRILLER

In an air-tight Original Six matchup between the Blackhawks and Bruins that saw Boston rally to tie the game three times, including a multi-goal comeback in the third period involving a game-tying goal with 12 seconds remaining in regulation, Elias Lindholm capped Boston’s come-from-behind victory in overtime to help the club improve to 6-1-0 on home ice this season. A franchise icon on each side also put their stamp on the game by reaching significant achievements early in the contest.

* The Bruins earned their League-leading fourth third-period comeback win of the season and first in 2026-27 when trailing by multiple goals in the final frame.

* Bruins captain David Pastrnak scored his 428th career goal to break a tie with Patrice Bergeron (427) for sole possession of third place on the Bruins all-time goals list behind Johnny Bucyk (545) and Phil Esposito (459).

* Patrick Kane assisted on Chicago’s opening goal to become the first U.S.-born player to reach the 900-assist milestone. He is the 21st player in NHL history to reach the benchmark and just the second active skater, alongside Sidney Crosby (1,113).

* Kane already holds the NHL record for assists (900) and points (1,409) by a U.S.-born player. Kane’s 508 career goals are the fourth most by a U.S.-born player and 53 shy of surpassing Mike Modano (561) for the most all-time.

McDAVID AND DRAISAITL CONTINUE POINT-PRODUCING WAYS TO WRAP UP OCTOBER
The NHL’s top two scoringleaders this season were pivotal in a sixth straight Oilers road victory Saturday as Connor McDavid (8-29—37) and Leon Draisaitl (12-14—26) have found the score sheet in all but two games in 2026-27 combined and concluded a month with 25 or more points each for the fourth time alongside Dec. 2025, March 2024 and March 2023.

* McDavid, who collected an assist and extended his season-opening point streak to 14 games, became the first player with 35 or more points in a single calendar month since Mario Lemieux did so in three months during the 1992-93 season (37 in March, 36 in Dec. & Oct.).

* McDavid concluded October with an 11-point cushion on Draisaitl, the next-highest scoring player. Through games played on Oct. 31 of every season, McDavid became the second player in NHL history with a double-digit point advantage on the second-highest scoring skater alongside Lemieux (16-22—38), who had a 13-point separation from Bernie Nicholls (11-14—25) in 1988-89.

ICYMI: Tristan Jarry (18 saves)shone in the crease for the Oilers, who became the fifth team since 2014-15 to win each of their first six road games of a season. Jarry became the sixth different goaltender in franchise history to post consecutive shutouts and first since Mike Smith (2 GP in 2021-22).

FOWLER EARNS SEVENTH STRAIGHT WIN FOR STREAKING CANADIENS
Jacob Fowler made 25 saves to help Montreal extend its winning streak to five – and his own to seven – as the Canadiens (9-3-2, 20 points) hit the 20-point mark. Montreal reached the mark in fewer than 15 games for the second straight season (also 14 GP in 2025-26), just the second time they’ve done so in consecutive campaigns over the past 30 years (also 12 GP in 2016-17 & 2015-16).

* Twenty-one-year-old Fowler became the second-youngest American goaltender in NHL history to record a seven-game winning streak, following Tom Barrasso (7 GP in 1984-85 at age 19). Fowler also became the third Canadiens rookie netminder over the past 40 years to record a winning streak of seven or more games, alongside teammate Jakub Dobes (7-0-0 in 2025-26) and Carey Price (7-0-0 in 2007-08).

* The Canadiens benefited from a pair of goals in 30 seconds or less twice Saturday. Montreal had done so only twice in the past 30 years: April 12, 2026 and Jan. 4, 2012.

VETERANS CROSBY, STAMKOS CLIMB ALL-TIME NHL LISTS
Sidney Crosby (1-2—3) and Steven Stamkos (1-0—1) both found the score sheet Saturday to continue their ascent on several of the League’s all-time lists.

* Crosby climbed a pair of all-time lists and hit a career plateau: with his first point of the night, he overtook Ray Bourque (1,111 w/ BOS) for sole possession of the most assists with one franchise, his second point made him the eighth player in NHL history with 800 road points and with his final point, he tied Marcel Dionne (1,771) for sixth place on the NHL’s all-time scoring list.

* Stamkos climbed the League’s all-time power-play goals list when he scored the tying tally in the third period, his first ever goal against his former team and teammate Andrei Vasilevskiy, and then netted the shootout-deciding goal to help the Predators rally from three separate deficits for the victory.  Stamkos, currently in his third season with the Predators, was recently eclipsed by Nikita Kucherov as Tampa Bay’s all-time leading scorer but still holds Lightning franchise records for goals, shootout goals and shootout-deciding goals.

SCORERS SERVED TREATS IN HALLOWEEN EDITION OF #NHLSTATS: LIVE UPDATES
The latest edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates saw players across the League serve up treats for fans on Halloween and pad their stats on the final day of the first full month of the season.

* A pair of Avalanche skaters had a happy Halloween as Martin Necas (1-1—2) boosted his lofty career totals on Oct. 31 while Cale Makar (0-4—4) joined a short list with a four-assist outing. Necas (4-9—13) tied Jari Kurri for the fourth-most points on Halloween in NHL history and Makar became the fourth defenseman in League history with a four-point outing on Oct. 31, following Tomas Kaberle (1-3—4 in 2009), Risto Siltanen (0-4—4 in 1981) and Bobby Orr (1-3—4 in 1970).

* Auston Matthews (1-0—1) extended his season-opening road point streak to eight games, a length only three other players have reached for the franchise: Harry Cameron (9 GP in 1921-22), William Nylander (8 GP in 2023-24) and Cal Gardner (8 GP in 1950-51). The Maple Leafs improved to 16-10-3 on Halloween – two more wins than the Rangers and Canadiens for the most in NHL history.

* Jimmy Snuggerud (1-1—2) played a key role for the Blues, who skated to their second win in as many contests and did so by sparking a multi-goal, third-period comeback victory. Snuggerud (30-36—66 in 91 GP) required the fourth-fewest games by a St. Louis skater to score 30 NHL goals behind Jorgen Pettersson (46 GP), Joe Mullen (65 GP) and Wayne Babych (73 GP).

* Tage Thompson (2-0—2) followed up his hat trick Thursday with another multi-goal outing Saturday in a Sabres win. He became Buffalo’s first player to the 10-goal mark in a season for the fifth time (also 2025-26, 2024-25, 2022-23 & 2021-22). The only Sabres player to do so as many times is Gilbert Perreault (8).

* Miro Heiskanen (0-2—2) recorded his 81st career multi-point game and tied Craig Hartsburg for the second most by a defenseman in Stars franchise history behind Sergei Zubov (115). Heiskanen (357) also passed Risto Siltanen (355) for the fourth-most points by a Finnish blueliner in NHL history.

* Tim Stützle (1-1—2) as well as Drake Batherson (1-0—1) both scored their ninth goal of October and matched the second most in a single October in franchise history. Stützle boosted his totals this season to 9-12—21 (all 15 GP in Oct.) and became the third player in Senators history to post 20-plus points in multiple calendar months (also 21 in March 2023), joining Dany Heatley (4x) and Jason Spezza (3x).

10TH STRAIGHT WIN ON THE HORIZON FOR KOCHETKOV?

The reigning Stanley Cup champions, who are back in action against the Jets on a five-game Sunday, dropped the first two games of 2026-27 but have since produced an 11-1-1 stretch and have done so on the back of Pyotr Kochetkov (9-0-0, .919 SV%, 1.66 GAA, 1 SO). Should he man the goal for Carolina today, Kochetkov could join Jack Campbell (11 GP in 2020-21) and Carey Price (10 GP in 2016-17) as the third goaltender in NHL history to win each of his first 10 games of a season.

* Kochetkov’s string of success extends beyond the start of the season (80-38-12, .905 SV%, 2.40 GAA, 12 SO). A win Sunday would also boost his career winning percentage to .600 – the third highest among active goaltenders (min. 100 GP), behind only Andrei Vasilevskiy (.618) and Jake Oettinger (.604).
