* Nathan MacKinnon outdueled fellow Nova Scotian Sidney Crosby with his first four-point outing of the season and matched Peter Forsberg on an Avalanche team list.

* David Pastrnak passed longtime teammate Brad Marchand on an all-time Bruins list while 27-year-old Michael DiPietro earned his first career win nearly eight years after his NHL debut.

* A 14-game Saturday features five national broadcasts on Sportsnet, including the second head-to-head meeting between No. 1 picks Matthew Schaefer and Gavin McKenna, while Brady Tkachuk aims to become the first player in NHL history to score three straight hat tricks when the Panthers face the Kraken.

MacKINNON OUTDUELS CROSBY WITH FOUR-POINT PERFORMANCE
The Penguins took an early 2-0 lead thanks in part to captain Sidney Crosby (0-1—1), but fellow Nova Scotian Nathan MacKinnon (1-3—4) helped the Avalanche storm back with five straight tallies to earn their first multi-goal comeback win on home ice since April 8, 2025. The Avalanche recorded their fourth game with at least five goals this season, tied with the Golden Knights and Kraken for the most instances among all clubs.

* MacKinnon logged his League-leading sixth multi-point game of 2026-27 as well as his 23rd career four-point outing on home ice, tied with Joe Sakic for the second most in Avalanche franchise history behind Peter Stastny (28).

* Despite the loss, Crosby notched his 1,110th career assist and passed Joe Thornton (1,109) for sole possession of seventh most in NHL history. Crosby also moved within one assist of tying Ray Bourque (1,111 w/ BOS) for the most with a single franchise in League history.

PASTRNAK CLIMBS BRUINS LIST WHILE DiPIETRO EARNS FIRST NHL WIN
David Pastrnak (1-1—2) scored his 423rd career goal to overtake longtime teammate Brad Marchand for fourth place on the Bruins’ all-time list, while 27-year-old Michael DiPietro stopped 25 of 27 shots to earn his first career win nearly eight years after his NHL debut with the Canucks on Feb. 11, 2019. Boston recorded its fourth straight victory and joined Buffalo (3) as the second team with multiple third-period comeback wins this season.

* DiPietro (27 years, 129 days) became the second Bruins goaltender in the past 48 years to earn their first NHL win at age 27 or older, following Tim Thomas (28 years, 187 days on Oct. 19, 2002).

STORYLINES APLENTY SATURDAY ON SPORTSNET

Another loaded Saturday of NHL action on Sportsnet in Canada will see five national games spanning nine hours with intriguing matchups including the defending champion Hurricanes putting their six-game win streak on the line in Winnipeg, the last two first overall NHL Draft picks, Matthew Schaefer (2025) and Gavin McKenna (2026) going head-to-head for the second time this season, a Second Round rematch between the Sabres and Canadiens (for the second time this week), Claude Giroux back in Philadelphia with the Senators and the NHL’s top scorer, Connor McDavid, closing in on 20 points.

Hurricanes at Jets (3:30 p.m. ET)

After starting the season 0-1-1, the Hurricanes have won six straight contests while outscoring their opponents by a 29-13 margin. Of the last 10 Stanley Cup winners prior to Carolina, four managed a win streak of seven or more games in the following season: Florida (7 GP in 2024-25), Vegas (7 GP in 2023-24), St. Louis (8 GP twice & 7 GP in 2019-20), Washington (7 GP twice in 2018-19) and Pittsburgh (7 GP in 2016-17). The longest all-time win streak by a defending Stanley Cup winner was a 17-game run by the Penguins in 1992-93 (also the longest win streak in NHL history by any team).

Islanders at Maple Leafs (7 p.m. ET)

For the second time in 17 days, the last two No. 1 picks will go head-to-head when Matthew Schaefer and the Islanders visit Gavin McKenna and the Maple Leafs (TOR won 2-1 on Sept. 30). It will mark the 90th game of Schaefer’s career (23-42—65 in 89 GP) and the ninth for McKenna (2-3—5 in 8 GP).

Sabres at Canadiens (7 p.m. ET)

After Montreal eliminated Buffalo in a thrilling seven-game series in the Second Round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the two teams will meet for the second time in four days following the Canadiens’ 4-3 shootout win against the Sabres on Tuesday. Buffalo has shown resilience to earn points early in 2026-27 – three of the Sabres’ four victories this season have seen them rally from a multi-goal deficit to win and they also came back from a pair of goals down to force a shootout against Montreal on Tuesday.

Senators at Flyers (7 p.m. ET)

The Senators (6-2-0, 12 points) look to continue their strong start to the season in Philadelphia, a city Claude Giroux is very familiar with. It will mark the seventh time Giroux has played in Philadelphia as a visitor (1-6—7 in 6 GP) since departing the team partway through the 2021-22 season. Giroux, who spent 15 seasons with the Flyers from 2007-08 to 2021-22, has more points (reg. season + playoffs combined) than any other player in the history of Xfinity Mobile Arena (since 1996-97) with 164-358—522 in 541 games.

Oilers at Mammoth (10 p.m. ET)

The Mammoth and Oilers meet for the second time in three days after Utah handed Edmonton its first regulation loss of the season on Thursday. Connor McDavid (4-14—18 in 7 GP) has taken an early lead in his pursuit of a seventh career Art Ross Trophy – only Wayne Gretzky (10), Gordie Howe (6) and Mario Lemieux (6) have as many as McDavid’s current total of six.

BRADY TKACHUK CHASES HISTORY SATURDAY

Panthers forward Brady Tkachuk can become the first player in NHL history to record a hat trick in three straight games (single season or spanning seasons, regular season or playoffs). There have been 83 previous instances of a player scoring a hat trick in consecutive games within a campaign (including three in playoffs). Overall, Tkachuk is the 65th different player in League history to post consecutive hat tricks within a season.

* Tkachuk can become the ninth player in NHL history to follow consecutive hat tricks with another multi-goal game and the first since Teemu Selanne and Alexander Mogilny in 1992-93. Selanne accounts for the most recent instance, from Feb. 28 – March 4, 1993, while skating with Brady’s father, Keith Tkachuk, as his teammate (Keith happened to score a goal in each game during Selanne’s stretch).
