FLORIDA OPENS NHL FROZEN FRENZY WITH THRILLING FAMILY AFFAIR
NHL Frozen Frenzy opened with literally just that… a frenzy, as Brady Tkachuk (3-1—4) and his brother Matthew (0-5—5) combined for nine points, with the former netting three goals in a span of 8:03 during the second period. The younger Tkachuk became the first player in NHL history with a natural hat trick where his brother assisted on all three goals.

* Bradybecame the ninth player in NHL history with a hat trick where his brother assisted on three of the goals and first since Daniel Sedin (3x; Nov. 21, 2015, Dec. 6, 2011 & April 10, 2010). Brady, whose goals all came in consecutive fashion, also became the fourth player in franchise history to score each of his first three goals with the Panthers in the same game after Radim Vrbata (Oct. 26, 2017), Dave Gagner (Oct. 4, 1997) and Ray Sheppard (March 21, 1996).
* Matthew notched five assists in a contest for the second time in his career (also Jan. 24, 2022), with four of them coming in the second period alone to set a Panthers record. In the process, Tkachuk became the third U.S.-born player in NHL history to record multiple five-assist games, joining Pat LaFontaine (4x) and Gary Suter (3x). Matthew also moved into a tie with John LeClair and Kevin Stevens (5 GP) for the fourth most five-point games in League history among his fellow countrymen.
* Matthew and Brady weren’t the only players to put up four or more points as defenseman Seth Jones registered 0-4—4. Tuesday’s contest marked the third in franchise history in which the Panthers had three players with four or more points, following Jan. 31, 2022 and Oct. 17, 2011.
NHL’S TOP TEAMS CONTINUE WINNING WAYS
The Hurricanes (6-1-1, 13 points), Rangers (6-2-0, 12 points), Golden Knights (6-2-0, 12 points) and Oilers (5-0-1, 11 points) occupy the top-four spots in the NHL’s overall standings and each continued their early-season success by securing regulation wins.
* Andrei Svechnikov (2-1—3) and Sebastian Aho (0-2—2) each potted multi-point outings and helped the Hurricanes capture their sixth straight win – a streak that comes on the heels of a 0-1-1 start to 2026-27. Aho (6-7—13 in 8 GP), third in NHL scoring this season (tied) and amid one of the best scoring starts to a campaign in franchise history, is the second Finnish-born player in NHL history to occupy a top-three position in overall scoring at this stage of a season (105 GP), alongside Mikko Rantanen (2nd in 2018-19).
* Alexis Lafrenière, with 2-0—2 in his first game since capturing “Third Star of the Week” honors, extended his goal streak to a career-best four games and helped the Rangers start a season 5-0-0 at home for the third time in franchise history, following 1990-91 (8-0-0) and 1983-84 (6-0-0). Dylan Garand also earned his fifth career win and matched Igor Shesterkin (5-1-0) as well as Cam Talbot (5-1-0) for the fewest starts by a Rangers goaltender to hit the mark.
* Jack Eichel (4-9—13) scored and kept pace among the NHL’s highest point getters in 2026-27 as he approaches his 700th career game (270-441—711 in 698 GP). Vegas (30 GF), who joined Carolina as the second team to reach the 30-goal mark this season (including shootout-deciding goals), has benefited from 18 unique players with a point – behind only Vancouver, Utah, Boston and Seattle (19) for the most among all teams.
* Connor McDavid (1-3—4) celebrated his 800th career game with his 50th career four-point outing and became the eighth player in League history with 10 three-point first periods. The Oilers captain also became just the fourth player in NHL history to record four points in their 800th contest, following Alexei Yashin (0-4—4 on Oct. 21, 2006), Theo Fleury (0-4—4 on April 3, 1999) and Gilbert Perreault (3-1—4 on March 19, 1981), as he powered Edmonton to a season-opening point streak of at least six games for the third time in franchise history (also 15 GP in 1984-85 & 7 GP in 1983-84).

Mark Scheifele (1-2—3) and Kyle Connor (1-1—2) combined on a goal for the 119th time since the start of the 2024-25 season – the most instances by a pair of teammates over that span (next closest: Connor McDavid & Leon Draisaitl w/110).

* Sidney Crosby factored on a game-tying goal for the 323rd and 324th time to overtake Mark Messier (322) for the fourth most in NHL history but Connor Bedard (0-1—1) – in his return to the lineup – and Patrick Kane (0-1—1) each found the score sheet to lift the Blackhawks to victory in a back-and-forth affair. Kane assisted on Roman Kantserov’s goal, who became the 98th different scorer he has collected a helper with during his Chicago tenure. The only active players with as many with a single franchise areCrosby(123), Evgeni Malkin (101) and Kris Letang (98).
