Virginia’s casino industry posted more than $97.5 million in adjusted gaming revenue (AGR) in August 2026, according to a monthly activity report released by the Virginia Lottery. The figures reflect continued activity across the Commonwealth’s five licensed casino properties: Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth, Caesars Virginia in Danville, The Interim Gaming Hall Norfolk, and Live! Virginia in Petersburg.
Statewide Revenue and Tax Collections
Casinos generated a combined $97.6 million in AGR, a total consistent with independent industry reporting and representing a modest decline from July’s record-setting performance. Under Virginia’s graduated tax structure, operators paid approximately $20 million into the state’s Gaming Proceeds Fund, which receives tax revenue based on AGR — defined as wagers minus winnings.
Statutory Distribution of Casino Tax Revenue
State law directs portions of casino tax collections to several designated funds and localities. These include:
- Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund
- Family and Children’s Trust Fund
- Host city allocations
- Virginia Indigenous People’s Trust Fund, where applicable
For Bristol, the host‑city share is routed to the Regional Improvement Commission (RIC). Norfolk’s Interim Gaming Hall continues to operate in partnership with the Pamunkey Indian Tribe, consistent with statutory and development agreements.
Operational Snapshot
All five casinos contributed to August’s statewide AGR total, with Caesars Virginia leading the field at $33.1 million, followed by Rivers Casino Portsmouth and Hard Rock Bristol. Live! Virginia in Petersburg and the Interim Gaming Hall Norfolk rounded out the month’s revenue distribution.
