Los Angeles Angels relieve Mike Maddux, Dom Chiti and Darryl Scott from pitching staff

ANAHEIM – The Angels announced today that the Club has relieved Pitching Coach Mike Maddux, Bullpen Coach Dom Chiti and Assistant Pitching Coach Darryl Scott of their duties. Additionally, Tim Leveque has been named Interim Pitching Coach and Michael Wuertz will serve as Interim Bullpen Coach. Today’s announcements were made by Angels Baseball Operations Consultant John Mozeliak.

“After spending time discussing with Kurt where we are as a coaching staff and where we want to go in the future, we felt it was best to make a change,” said Mozeliak. “With seven weeks remaining, we plan to use this time to evaluate what additional steps are needed to elevate our entire pitching program and best position us for success moving forward.”

Leveque joined the Angels organization this season as Double-A Rocket City’s Pitching Coach after spending the previous 20 seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He was a Pitching Analyst in the Cardinals scouting department in 2025, after working the previous nine years as Senior Minor League Pitching Coordinator, overseeing pitcher development throughout the system. Earlier in his career, Leveque served as a Pitching Coach at multiple Cardinals affiliates and began his professional baseball career as a video intern with Milwaukee in 2005. A Northridge, CA native, Leveque was selected by Detroit in the 29th round of the 1999 Draft, but elected to attend the University of Michigan, where he pitched from 2000-03.

Wuertz is in his 11th year in the Angels organization and was serving as the Angels Minor League Assistant Pitching Coordinator, following five seasons as the inaugural Pitching Coach with Double-A Rocket City. He previously worked with High-A Inland Empire (2016-17, 2019) and Rookie-Level Orem (2018) as a Pitching Coach to begin his tenure with the organization. Wuertz pitched eight Major League seasons with the Cubs (2004-08) and Athletics (2009-11), going 21-11 with a 3.71 ERA (414.1 IP – 171 ER) in 426 career games. A native of Austin, MN, he was selected by the Cubs in the 11th round of the 1997 Draft.
