The Seattle Mariners recalled infielder Leo Rivas from Triple‑A Tacoma and placed veteran shortstop J.P. Crawford on the 10‑day injured list with left‑wrist inflammation, the club announced Sunday. The move is retroactive to July 30 and marks Crawford’s third IL stint of the season.
Rivas Returns After Tacoma Assignment and IL Rehab
Rivas, 28, rejoins Seattle after spending more than two months in Triple‑A. He appeared in 38 games for the Mariners earlier this season, batting .131 (13-for-99) before being optioned on May 18. With Tacoma, he played 13 games, hitting .186 with two home runs and a .732 OPS.
The switch‑hitting infielder also missed time with a minor‑league injury, spending June 17–July 23 on the 7‑day IL and making four rehab appearances with the ACL Mariners. Rivas has appeared in parts of three Major League seasons with Seattle, batting .198 with five doubles, two triples, two home runs, 24 RBI and 11 stolen bases.
A native of Maracay, Venezuela, Rivas has logged parts of 10 minor‑league seasons across the Angels, Reds, and Mariners organizations.
Crawford Heads to IL Again Amid Injury‑Plagued Season
Crawford, 31, returns to the injured list for the third time in 2026. He previously missed time with right‑shoulder inflammation to open the season and a right‑hand contusion in June.
The longest‑tenured active Mariner has appeared in 87 games this year, batting .212 (65-for-307) with 38 runs, 11 doubles, 10 home runs, 30 RBI and 50 walks. He owns a .330 on‑base percentage and .675 OPS.
Crawford, who joined Seattle in 2019, has played more games at shortstop than any player in franchise history and won the 2020 American League Gold Glove at the position. Over eight seasons with the club, he has hit .247 with 175 doubles, 11 triples, 74 home runs, 356 RBI and 462 walks.
Seattle did not announce a corresponding 40‑man roster move.
