St. Petersburg, Florida — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to this afternoon’s series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field:
- Right-handed pitcher Jakob Junis placed on 15-day Injured List (left adductor strain), retroactive to July 29
- Right-handed pitcher Winston Santos recalled from Triple-A Round Rock
Additionally, Texas transferred the injury rehab assignment of left-handed pitcher Cody Bradford from Double-A Frisco to Triple-A Round Rock.
Junis is landing on the 15-day Injured List for the second time this month, as he missed 11 games from July 1-17 with a right hip impingement. Since being activated on July 18, the 33-year-old right-hander posted no record with a 1.93 ERA (1 ER/4.2 IP) in 6 appearances, last pitching a scoreless 8th inning with one hit allowed on Tuesday at Tampa Bay to pick up his team-high 14th hold of 2026. In 36 games for Texas this season, including one start, Junis is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA (12 ER/40.0 IP) and 30 strikeouts against 7 walks.
Santos, Texas’ 11th-ranked prospect (MLB Pipeline), is embarking on his 2nd stint with Texas this season (also June 24-July 1). His lone Major League appearance to date was his MLB debut on July 1 at Cleveland when he allowed 2 earned runs in 2.0 innings pitched of Texas’ 9-4 defeat (2 H, 1 BB, 1 SO, 1 HR, 33 pitches/21 strikes). Prior to that, the right-hander had never pitched above the Double-A level. Santos was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on July 2 and has made 4 appearances/one start for the Express since July 7, including his first Triple-A win on July 12 at Reno (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R-0 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO). He last appeared on Sunday at Albuquerque, tossing 2.0 scoreless frames in relief (2 H, 1 BB, 2 SO, 31 pitches/21 strikes) during Round Rock’s 9-2 victory.
Originally signed by the Rangers as a non-drafted free agent from the Dominican Republic on July 2, 2019, Santos has compiled a minor league record of 29-26 with a 4.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 467 strikeouts in 101 games/90 starts since 2021. He pitched in the 2024 All-Star Futures Game at Globe Life Field and was the starting pitcher for the Texas prospects in the 2025 Spring Breakout Game vs. San Francisco in Scottsdale. Since 2021, Santos leads all pitchers in the Rangers chain in wins, while ranking 2nd in starts.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with eight players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP’s Carter Baumler and Jose Corniell, LHP’s Jalen Beeks, Cody Bradford, Robert Garcia, and Jordan Montgomery, INF/OF Michael Helman, and C Danny Jansen).
