INF/OF Miles Mastrobuoni designated for assignment
SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the following roster moves:
- Julio Rodríguez, OF, reinstated from the 7-day Injured List (concussion).
- Miles Mastrobuoni, INF/OF, designated for assignment.
The Mariners 40-man roster is now at 39 players.
Rodríguez, 25, missed 10 games after being placed on the 7-day Injured List on July 3. He left the game on July 2 vs. Los Angeles-AL after getting struck by a ball in the back of the head while running to second base.
The 6-foot-4 228 pounder currently has an 8 game on-base streak (6/24-c), batting .414 (12×29) with 3 RBI, 2 stolen bases and 3 walks during the span. Overall, he is hitting .259 (89×344) with 46 runs, 15 doubles, 14 home run, 40 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 29 walks in 87 games for Seattle this season.
The 3-time AL All-Star (2022-23 and 2025) has appeared in 677 career games with Seattle, batting .272 (743×2728) with 414 runs, 125 doubles, 9 triples, 126 home runs, 381 RBI, 128 stolen bases and 198 walks, getting on base at a .330 clip, slugging .463 with a .793 OPS.
This is Julio’s 4th time on the Injured List in his 5-year Major League career, having also missed time on the 10-day IL from July 23-Aug.11, 2024 (right ankle sprain), July 31-Aug. 10, 2022 (right wrist contusion) and from Sept. 23-Oct. 2, 2022 (lower back strain).
Julio was originally signed by the Mariners as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic on July 2, 2017. He and Ichiro Suzuki are the only Mariners to make the MLB All-Star Game in each of their first 2 seasons in the big leagues. Julio became the first player in Mariners history to record multiple 30+ home runs, 30+ stolen bases seasons, after joining the 30/30 club in 2025 (also: 2023).
Mastrobuoni (mass-troh-BOH-nee), 30, was selected from Triple-A Tacoma on July 3 and appeared in 5 games during his most recent stint with the Mariners. He was also designated for assignment on June 19. He has appeared in 89 games with the Mariners since last season: 76 games last season and 13 games this year, batting .242 (43×178) with 23 runs, 4 doubles, 1 home run, 13 RBI and 6 stolen bases with a .592 OPS.
Mastrobuoni began the season on the 10-day Injured List, and later 60-day IL, with a right calf strain. He was acquired by the Mariners from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations on Jan. 14, 2025. He has appeared in 5 Major League seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays (2022), Cubs (2023-24) and Mariners (2025-26), batting .228 (97×425) with 57 runs, 12 doubles, 2 homers, 22 RBI, 22 stolen bases and 40 walks.
