Seattle Reign FC Signs Rutgers Defender Emily Mason

Seattle, WA – Seattle Reign FC is proud to announce that they have signed Rutgers defender Emily Mason through the 2025 NWSL season. This signing marks a significant shift as Mason becomes the Reign’s first collegiate signing since the NWSL transitioned away from the NWSL Draft.

Collegiate Success

Emily Mason, 22, hails from Rutgers University where she started in 72 of her 82 total appearances, recording six goals and seven assists across four seasons. In her collegiate debut with the Scarlet Knights in 2021, Mason played a pivotal role in leading Rutgers to its first Big Ten Conference title in program and university history.

International Achievements

Mason was named to the 2025 USWNT Futures Camp today, highlighting her continued rise in the national team setup. On the international stage, Mason has won gold medals with the U.S. Youth National Team at the Sud Ladies Cup in 2022 and the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship in 2022 and 2020. During the 2022 competition, she started five of seven games, scoring three goals and adding an assist. Her stellar performance earned her a spot on the Concacaf U-20 Championship Best XI after she helped the defense achieve seven straight shutouts during their title run. Mason also contributed to the U.S. team’s victory at the 2020 Concacaf U-20 Championship, helping defeat Mexico 4-1 in the final.

In 2022, Mason represented the United States at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, further showcasing her defensive prowess on the global stage.

Early Accolades

Before attending Rutgers, Mason was named the 2019-20 Gatorade National Player of the Year and a two-time New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year (2019-20, 2020-21). She won the ECNL National Championship with PDA in 2019 and served as captain of the club at the U-15, U-17, and U-19 levels.
