Indiana Gaming Commission Releases May Betting Figures

In terms of sports, basketball continued to be the favorite discipline of Indiana bettors, attracting $97.2 million in bets

The Indiana Gaming Commission has published information about the performance of the state’s sports betting market. Overall, the Indiana wagering sector’s results continued to fluctuate while FanDuel retained its spot as the top sportsbook.

In May, Indiana’s sportsbooks recorded $361 million in handle, marking an 8.2% decline month-on-month and a 27.6% increase year-on-year. Despite the slight setback, Indiana’s sports betting revenue for the month exceeded the revenue posted in April by 5.1%, reporting $39 million in GGR. This figure also highlighted an increase of 15.4% year-on-year.

In May, Indiana’s sportsbooks paid $3.7 million in taxes to the state.

In terms of sports, basketball continued to be the favorite discipline of Indiana bettors, attracting $97.2 million in bets. While this figure marks an increase of 35% year-on-year, it also represents a month-on-month decline of 19.8%.

In the meantime, Indiana punters wagered $73.7 million on baseball. Football fans, on the other hand, were responsible for $1.68 million of the bets. An additional $102 million was wagered via parlay bets.

Fans in Indiana also bet $86.6 million on other sports.

In terms of year-to-date results, wagering handle stood at $4.4 billion. Data shows that players have so far wagered almost $1.6 billion on parlays and over $1 million on basketball. Football and baseball enthusiasts have so far bet $661.4 million and $368.7 million respectively.

As mentioned, FanDuel and its local partner, Blue Chip Casino, remained firmly at the top, reporting a handle of $112.3 million, resulting in revenue of $15.9 million. Blue Chip Casino was also the biggest taxpayer, paying $1.5 million in taxes.

Ameristar Casino, a partner of DraftKings, occupied the second spot, reporting a handle of $134 million and revenue of $12.7 million for May. In terms of taxes, the property paid $1.2 million to the state.

Belterra Casino, which is another partner of FanDuel, recorded $31.7 million in bets and $2.7 million in revenue. The operator also paid $261,000 in taxes to the state.

In other news, two men were recently charged with running an illegal online gambling website in the state. Allegedly, the men ran the scheme between July 1, 2020, and November 26, 2023, and reportedly earned $1.7 million from the operation.

Because of that, the alleged operators face prison time and financial penalties.
