Four rounds of #NHLStats as the Canucks search for the first Stanley Cup win in their 53-season history:
* Quinn Hughes leads Vancouver into its first postseason appearance since 2020, when he set the NHL record for points by a rookie defenseman in a playoff year. Now in his first season wearing the “C,” Hughes can become the first U.S.-born player in NHL history to captain a Stanley Cup-winning team based in Canada.
* Vancouver is on track for one of the largest year-over-year point improvements in franchise history as they seek to become the sixth team since 1980 (when the 16-team playoff format began) to miss the playoffs and then win the Stanley Cup the next season (2023 VGK, 2019 STL, 2006 CAR, 1994 NYR and 1991 PIT have done so).
* Six current Canucks – Brock Boeser, Thatcher Demko, Quinn Hughes, J.T. Miller, Tyler Myers and Elias Pettersson – played with them in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, a run that included their only best-of-seven series win since reaching the 2011 Stanley Cup Final (they eliminated the reigning champion Blues in 2020 R1).
* Thatcher Demko’s only Stanley Cup Playoffs experience came as a rookie in 2020 and his only playoff starts have come when facing elimination. After a brief relief appearance in Game 1 of the Second Round, Demko later made three straight starts – allowing a total of two goals against and setting the NHL benchmark for saves in a shutout by a rookie – to help Vancouver twice stave off elimination before a Game 7 defeat against Vegas.

More #NHLStats
* Vancouver seeks its first Stanley Cup in its 53rd season, tied with Buffalo for the longest wait in NHL history for a first championship. The top two longest spans before securing a first Stanley Cup win are 51 seasons (STL in 2019) and 44 seasons (LAK in 2012).
* Quinn Hughes can become the third U.S.-born captain of any Cup-winner in NHL history – following Dustin Brown (2x) and Derian Hatcher – and thesixth in NHL history to captain any Cup-winner at age 24 or younger – after Wayne Gretzky (2x), Jonathan Toews, Sidney Crosby, Bobby Clarke and Ted Kennedy.
* Rick Tocchet (3x; player: 1992; assistant coach: 2016 & 2017), Jim Rutherford (2x; GM: 2016 & 2017) and Patrik Allvin (scouting staff in 2009, 2016 & 2017) all have ties to Stanley Cup-winning teams in Pittsburgh. Rutherford also was GM of Carolina when that franchise won its first Cup in 2006.
